I’ve been to see my consultant today with a view of having a hysterectomy. It hasn’t been confirmed I have OC yet, but I am experiencing many of the symptoms. Im feeling very anxious that after 6 weeks I still have not had any treatment if it is OC.....is this a good thing or not? I believe Early detection/early treatment gives you a better chance of survival.
I am having surgery at Nottingham City Hospital. How long do you normally wait?

Hello.... it was a long time between first gynae appointment and first treatment for me... roughly mid July to the beginning of September. I think they have to go through a thorough process of diagnosis and then deciding on a treatment plan.
The standard is something like 62 days... just over two months.
Maybe ask them for a timescale when you next have an appointment? Are they planning to use the hysterectomy as a diagnostic? In which case, they could get you in as soon as possible.
It is reasonable to ask about their waiting list and to ask if you can go somewhere else to get the op done more quickly. Best of luck xx
Yes they are using the hysterectomy as a diagnostic.....I will ring the waiting list department tomorrow so I have an idea of the time scale.....The waiting is awful.... I plan to keep busy and let go of the things I cannot change and be proactive with the things I can.
My sister has suggested I have some alternative therapies to alleviate/ reduce my anxiety and little treats until surgery.
My experience was a little different because my cancer was not operable at diagnosis so I had to have chemo first.
However I can say that all through my five years of excellent treatment the approach has always been very calm and steady. There has never been a rush into treatment. Instead there has been a thorough collecting of information followed by careful treatment planning.
I agree that this is a odds with the message we get given about everything being urgent and needing to be done yesterday. I suppose however this is more about getting you into the system. Once you are known and your consultant has the results of the investigations in front of him he can actually see what is going on and how quickly things really need to be things done. After all they are paid to be the experts.
I agree with your sister. Trust your medics and enjoy the time you have before your surgery and get yourself as strong as you can mentally and physically.
It seems pretty commonplace to have 3 cycles of chemo before the op then 3 cycles after but some people have the op first. Good luck with your treatment!
Can understand how anxious you must be feeling, your medical team will have your best interests at heart, you're doing all the right things ,I can't say how long your wait will be because my situation was different ,six cycles of chemotherapy ,then surgery. I had my surgery at city hospital almost two weeks ago ,so just wanted to put your mind at rest about the care ,it was fantastic ,couldn't have wished for more ,
theatre staff were so caring ,I had spinal and general anesthetic ,they made me feel less anxious ,doctors were great friendly and approachable ,nursing staff of all levels were kind and caring, nothing too much trouble ,they listened and explained everything ,not a nice op but made easier by the lovely atmosphere on the ward. Wishing you well whatever the outcome ,keep us posted. Xx
That's good news , now you have something to work towards ,I'm recovering slowly , well too slowly for me ,I'm inpatient ,but I'm told I'm where I should be .Good luck with the op ,hoping for good news for you ,but whatever the outcome you're in safe hands and us ladies will be with you . xx
Hi, I cannot advise as everyone is different with this. Just be aware that recovery takes longer than six weeks and if you do have OC get some counceling quickly through Maggie's or hospital. Ok I hope it is early stage for you. Best of luck.
It’s usual to be in for surgery in 2-3 weeks if they suspect OC. It looks as if your medical team are doing all the right things and OC can only be really confirmed by being surgically investigated. While you’re waiting (the worst part...truly!) don’t look at Dr Google. It’s out of date and often just plain bonkers! Have a look on ovacome.org.uk for all the support you need about signs, symptoms and processes. Good luck. Some of us have been here for a long time.....17 years in my case. It’s not always bad news. Good luck.
I had a laparotomy and hysterectomy on the 3rd of October at Nottingham City Hospital.....The team are absolutely fantastic..... I am in safe hands.....16 days post op now and making good if not slow progress .....this op is not for sissies!🥴
I’m awaiting the histology report to determine if it is OC. and the next step.
This forum has been my strength and guidance..... I’m incredibly grateful and thankful to all the wonderful ladies sharing their journeys
