Hello Triplets, its a while since I had carbo I did have pins and needles, how I coped was to massage your hands and feet and soak in a bath with epsom salts, or use a basin if you just have a shower. Use Simple Baby wash with Calomile and perhaps Aveeno body lotion.

Hi

I start carboplatin and caelyx next week and oncologist and Macmillan nurse were very clear about itchiness may be a side effect. Keep your hands and feet as cool as possible. Don't have hot baths or showers ,don't hug your mugs of drinks - oh and try not to wash dishes !!!!!apparently there may be some blistering but everybody's different. Good luck xx

My hands did feel sore but I didn't have itchyness .... I did use a lot of moisturiser ... think your doing right thing getting in touch with unit as it could be a reaction that they can treat.

I finished carboplatin in Aptil and still get very itchy hands especially at night. Also now come out in red itchy blotches if Plastic touches my skin, particularly carrier bags. I mentioned it my onc and he said to take an antihistamine.

Hi

Not quite the same but when I had carbo last year while I was having it I experienced itchy hands and feet to the point it was almost unbearable! It died down about 45 mins after it finished , took an antihistamine the next time which helped! I was fine on it too no side affects apart from that! 😃 Glad you're well too 😃 Xx

Hi there

I am about to have my fifth Carbo only on Mon. Since my second one I found my hands were very dry and slightly sore and looked a bit scaly. There was no itch. I thought it may have been the anti bacterial products I was using . I bought a good hand cream which I use often and it takes away the dry feeling and scaliness but it reappears if I don't use the cream. I did read possibly on this site that CarboplAtin can cause this condition. Hope this reassures you. I hope it just disappears when I finish treatment.

I developed terribly itchy palms and feet on carbo. It also started a week after my treatment. My doctor prescribed prednisone which cleared it right up in just a few days. I wrapped my hands in cold wet towels until I could reach the doctor and pick up my prescription.

Thanks everybody, rang the unit who said yes it was common, use an antihistamine if necessary. I notice its triggered when my hands are wet so am going to but some disposable gloves tomorrow esp for washing up! Kept going to the fridge today and hugging a bottle of Prosecco!! Keep well everyone! x
