side effects of carboplatin: Im about to start... - My Ovacome
side effects of carboplatin
I have just had 6 cycles of Carboplatin/Taxol, the 1st and 6th cycle were Carboplatin on its own. I was very tired, constipated and that was about it. The constipation was sorted with Laxido (our LHB doesn't use Movicol now) and plenty of rest for the tiredness. I think I may have been lucky re side effects, I had a few more when Taxol was added, that's the one that makes you loose your hair.
Hope you won't have many side effects.
Best wishes
Chris
My wife had a reaction to it during the 3rd lot of chemo (2nd time carbo) - basically she got a bit hot and felt iffy......so from then on she had it over a longer period of time (4 hours instead of 1 hour) and that sorted it. Her tiredness grew but we dont dont know if that was carbo or the gemcitibine?.....good luck anyway
I had 6 cycles of carboplatin alone.
The worst direct result of each treatment was constipation. I am a vegetarian and eat a largely raw diet, but despite this I had to take laxitives before and after each treatment to be comfortable. Cumulatively; tiredness grew with each treatment, and anaemia. Many people succumb to infections - I took immune support throughout.
During and afterwards I had aching limbs, tendonitis and needles and pins.
It was all ok - but it took me over 2 years to recover completely, and I still have nerve problems that might be a result.
I'm sure it could have been a great deal worse, and I have remained in remission since!
Good luck wirth your treatment.
Best wishes,
Isadora
Hi Lesley
I had carboplatin on its own too and I agree with Isadora that the constipation was the hardest thing to keep on top of. Sorry, the pun was unintentional That finished in February and I'm lucky in that I now have loads of energy and am not really aware of any lingering side-effects, so I hope things work out the same for you.
Best wishes
Linda
Hello Lesley,
I choose to have Carboplatin only and I didnt really have a bad time on it at all.
I did get very tired the more chemo I had so took to my bed a few times to just
sleep and "go with the flow".
Didnt really suffer with any constipation at all, and after the first 3/4 days life went
on as usual.
I think we are all so different and respond in our own ways to these drugs.
Hope it all goes well for you.

Hello
I'm on carboplatin alone. After the first treatment I hadn't appreciated how little activity was too much and succombed to 2 infections. My plan of campaign now is to drink gallons during the first few days as I soon start having warm wee, but drinking keeps the temperature in order. I also rest every afternoon.
Then there's the constipation which occurs for 3-4 days after each treatment, but tackle this with lots of fibre, fruit and veg. Laxatives haven't been needed.
The treatment has not made me ill, just a bit weary and I certainly feel grateful to have been let off so lightly.
Treatment 6 in 3 weeks time!
Love Christine -Hope it goes well
I find carboplatin makes my eyes go fuzzy as well. Difficult to get focused if I look outside, but not too bad indoors . Other than that, tired and achy, with a sore mouth. I am having a desensitising method for carboplatin as it made me bad last time I had it, so this time, dosed up with steroids and antihistamine then done slowly. Here's hoping it works.
God luck
Viv
I too am doing a Carboplatin only as I have an allergic reaction to Taxol. Other than being extremely nauseated I am doing okay! I have only done one cycle thus far. The doctor has added steroids after treatment as well but I don't have any idea what this is for?! Best of luck to you!!!!
Always in my thoughts,
Michelle
