Hi Lovely Ladies,
I was wondering if it's ok to have dental work done whilst on chemo? I read it somewhere and am enquiring for my special person xx
Hi Lovely Ladies,

I was told not to have dental work while on chemo. I need a crowne refitting with post and Carnot have it until I'm off bevacizumab, which is next june/july
Hi. I was told not to have dental work whilst on Chemo. would be worth checking with your oncologist and dentist though depending on what needs doing xx
Having dental work can cause infections so I would wait until after chemo but do check with your onc they are the experts 😃
Thanks Lovely Ladies I will ring the hospital on behalf of my special person xx
Hi Callme, I asked the cancer nurse this question & she said you can but if you are having any drilling then you will need antibiotics. I am on chemo & having a filling tomorrow. The dentist has told me I will not need antibiotics but I am going to ask for them any way just in case I do get an infection. I am in pain & do need a filling & there will be some drilling. Hope that helps you. Cindyxx
To the best of my knowledge, you may have fillings and cleaning but not any surgical procedure such as extractions. When you are on chemo oral hygiene is very important so it is important to visit your dentist. You may not have extractions while on Avastin or three months post Avastin. However it is better to clear any treatment with your friends oncologist
I was told no dental work due to possible infections so it's interesting to see that there are differing replies! If it's an emergency dental appt or something like re sticking a crown then I'd say they would have to be done ! I see that you're going to check which is a good idea
Take care
Clare
Hi. I agree with Suzuki. My understanding is that you can have fillings etc but no removals. Best wishes. Pauline
Thank you all for your comments Lovely Ladies. You are all inspirational to everyone supporting you as I know my special person is inspirational to me xx
Hiya
I had two crowns fitted which meant having a six week break from Avastin.. normally they would refuse but I got terrible toothache so they relented. Great having teeth again!! XxL
I saw my new dentist shortly after finishing my last course of chemo. He said I needed to have some roots removed but didn't want to do it so close to finishing chemo
It's one of those things "they" should, but don't, tell you before you start chemo....get a checkup and any work needed done BEFORE starting chemo.
I do now as a result of a miserable time during one lot of chemo.
I would not get dental work on chemo or for a while after chemo. After my first chemo my gums would bleed so easily. Also your WBC's generally go low so your risk if infection goes way up. Ask your doctor but mine said to wait.
