Having a bad day! In need of a bit of a boost.

Hey everyone. Really struggling right now,I'm generally ok and having finished 2nd line Chemo in June for recurrence was finally starting to relax, then my daughter rang who's only just started Uni to say she's found a lump in her breast , Uni GP has said he is not too concerned but because I am BRcA1 he has referred her to one stop clinic in local hospital. I literally feel sick with worry, I know it's unlikely to be anything but she had appendicitis 2 years ago which turned out to be a malignant tumour (very rare!) so having problems listening to my rational brain. Any words of wisdom please? Thanks Claire.xxx

Hi Claire - of course you're understandably worried. Why do we always jump to the worst outcomes? I know it's easy to say, but right now I'd focus on giving your daughter tons of emotional support. My daughter is also prone to difficult medical diagnoses, and indeed I worry a lot about her health too (and I'm BRCA1!). We've just got to be strong and take every piece of advice from the medics that we can. Thank goodness she had the presence of mind to get it checked out quickly. She sounds very sensible, so don't over-react if you can. Hold on to that good feeling after stopping chemo - it's important!

Hi Claire,

I expect you feel as if you can't take any more worry and now this. I would worry more about my daughter than me. She is now in the system though and having had at least 15 cysts aspirated myself in the past they are very common and let's hope it is no more than that. I'm keeping everything crossed for her and I know you will be strong for her whilst you worry yourself silly. Hugs being sent to you xx

Hi Clare,

Know how you feel,but this has been caught early and I'm sure all will be fine.We do all worry about our offspring and it would be wrong if we didn't ,I do too, not only have I had OC but my husbands mother and grandmother died of it, so, we have double whammy.

Just advice to help deal with it is take each day at a time and just realise that if it is the worst case scenario,there are so many treatments and positive outcomes, it isn't all doom and gloom,

There are always us ladies to talk to if you are worried,

Big hug for you and of course one for your daughter too. It's a worrying time however thank goodness she had the presence of mind to a) check and b) report. We all worry and we all know that won't change anything! I hope you can mange to find a place that you can 'put' your concerns while tests are going on, we all say try to keep calm and not have that awful feeling of anxiety in our stomachs but it is easier said than done isn't it?

Give each other a big hug, even if it's just a virtual one over the phone! Hope she gets the all clear very soon.

I agree with the other posts. Your daughter sounds great - she has done the right thing and I only wish it didn't mean so much worry for you. We can't help worry about our children but I think you should be reassured that this is so early .

I have a daughter similar age and have had similar worries when she had to have tests for gastro problems, I know it is the worst feeling in the world. Thankfully she was ok and I hope you will soon get the same news, best wishes to you both. Madeline x

Oh no as if you didn't have enough on your plate. Do remember that there are many other reasons for lumps in breasts. I've had cysts drained and another scare with a lump that was nothing. Though I'm sure you'll be worried sick until it's properly investigated.
