hi , I started taking aspirin 75mgs daily after seeing a post related to it on this site. Saw oncologist last Friday and he said no overwhelming evidence to support but had been discussion on the benefit of aspirin for years. Indicated there is still ongoing research. but he thought it could do no harm so will continue to take it
Aspirin: hi , I started taking aspirin 75mgs... - My Ovacome
Aspirin
Yes I have also read some posts about ibuprofen being used sucessfully. I did ask my onc and he was there was nothing to suggest it worked. However I do take statins anyhow which are now supposed to have a similar effect.
@dryden1 - aspirin frequently causes bleeding and is not recommended for patients on carbo taxol or other chemos because the chemo itself can cause irritation to mucous membranes. So for others reading this be sure to clear it through your GP
I am so,so sorry I did not mean to mislead anybody. The oncologist did mention the risk of side effects and in no way am I advocating taking any medication without discussing it with a doctor first
I mentioned Aspirin at my last oncology appt. She said it wouldn't help anyone like myself who is currently dealing with a recurrence, but there are suggestions it may help prevent a recurrence. But she said she wouldn't advise taking regular Ibuprofen due to side effects.
I had been taking aspirin for 10 years with my blood pressure tablet before my cancer appeared so don't really think it will stop cancer returning, but having said that it is nearly 5years since my treatment and upto now I haven't had any problems. I didn't take it while on chemo but after I felt well enough I started taking it again. It is prescribed by my doctor.
