I've received a phone call today from my CNS to say that after my CT scan last Monday I now have a small blockage and need a stent, this is to keep the uterer (I think I've got that right) open, she is organising a date to go in for this this day procedure. Has anyone had a stent?
Yes I had to have a stent for exactly the same reason January. The procedure was done under GA very quickly and caused me little concern. I did have a raging kidney infection though at the time because of the bulge in the ureter. I have now started 3rd line weekly chemo and rather upset to find I have another infection yesterday. Back on antibiotics . If you see my earlier post "another infection " it has been suggested low dose regular antiBs may help, as apparently futher infections can be a problem when u have a stent. Something you may want to discuss further. I felt at the time I had little choice due to the problems at the time .
Thank you, yes I feel I've got little choice to, my CNS says it will be done under LA which I'm not looking forward to. Yes I've been on a low dose of antibiotics because I'm prone to infections and they did work so worth asking about. Thank you Kris.
Hello I had a stent fitted in sept as I was rushed in with kidney pain which was a kidney infection caused by a blockage, having it fitted etc was no problem, but I have had a few uti infections since , i seem to be constantly on antibiotics!! they told me it would be changed in 6 months so I'm due to have that done in April, hope it all goes well for you
Yes, I had a pair of urethean (sp?) stents fitted the day before my debulking surgery, which is a fairly standard procedure in Germany for protecting the urether during surgery. They came out a day or two after the op.
Don't worry if you see your urine change colour and get slightly bloody, it's apparently normal (but check with your med team anyway to be sure).
Not going to lie.. the fitting and removal both were no fun for me (despite a local anaestetic being applied). If you have a choice, you could ask for proper sedation if you have worries with regards to pain.
But I suspect that I'm just hyper sensitive in that area (the stents caused me an unusual amount of issues , whereas a number of other folks said they had no problems with them so I reckon I'm the exception and don't let it put you off.). A friend of ours has been living with stents (which get changed at regular intervals) for several years now and doesn't feel them at all.
Better to have stents and get the body working again as designed, any day. Good luck.
