Dublin lets be having you.

Hi Ladies, so the latest is I get to see a Radiology Consultant not in St James though, its the Beacon because this guy is supposed to be very good. I have appointment next Weds to see this man. I am a little apprehensive but had rt before but this is a smarter machine. So will have to stay in Dublin nearby for a few weeks. I will have planning scan Weds as well and then get a date to start so I can also book accommodation. One or two places give patients a discount. I have friends in Newbridge but they have been through their own share of health problems so refused point blank to stay with them. My daughter will take time off and my Kildare friend can come up for coffee. I also have a nephew in Dublin and his Mum and some friends of my brothers so I wont exactly be alone. My daughter will come up as well, I am so lucky I kept my Health Insurance plan which covers the Hospital. If any of you have experiences of Beacon I would love to hear from you, Better still if you have experience of IMRT Radiotheraphy would also love to hear from you. My recurrence is on hip muscle. Thanks again.

Hi Suzuki,

I have no experience of radiotherapy but have been attending the beacon since 2016 with ovarian cancer. Most recently reoccurrence. The staff are all so good and helpful. Be sure to make sure your health insurance covers everything as every so often I get bills to pay for scans etc that they say are not covered as apparently only entitled to 1 a year when I need them every 3/6 months. Already had 3 this year. But otherwise they are great. I live near by so if I can be of any assistance to you please let me know. Either for help with finding accommodation or a lift or a coffee. Please just ask. Best of luck with everything.

Hi Toni, thank you so much for your reply. Would love to meet you for a coffee when I am above. I have a nephew in Dublin who has put me right with the Luas from Marlborough St. He thinks Sandyford is a better stop though research says that Kilmacud is nearer, I have stayed in Leopardstown a year and a half ago so familiar with the line from Stephens Green, He said the No 11 bus can be iffy. Would you agree with him? In fairness the junior doc has rung me a few times and seems nice. I will sort accommodation when I get starting dates, might go back to Leopardstown rather than Beacon Hotel. Both do discount. I will only be having a planning scan on Weds after the consult. Maybe start treatment a week or ten days after that. My daughter will pop up and down and my nephew will be around. I have a friend in Newbridge who I will also see, Will message you when I have more details. But if you could put me right about the luas stop would appreciate it thank you

Hi Suzuki Kilmacud is the stop for the beacon not sandyford. You can actually see hospital from from that stop and vice Versa. I’m not good with the buses at all but I’ll look at no 11 and see if it stops near and any other ones. I’m in Beacon every second Wednesday anyway for my treatment so if your coming this week let me know as I’m in for the day. The Clayton in leopatdstown is another option for you and a friend just told me about a nice B&b in sandyford which could be an option too and a lot cheaper. Chat soon.

Ah was there yesterday, that's a pity. We got luas to Kilmacud and found the Hospital. Consultation went well, and got planning scan done also and bloods/ I was wrecked to be honest. Yes it seems that the VHI is strict on the Clinic. I have to go back for Stereostatic Radiotheraphy in two weeks date to be decided. I was told that the VHI wont pay the full amount although they would pay it for lung Cancer patients. Its not a problem but I think they want me to fight any negative feed back from VHI re my claim. He is doing the treatment anyhow, He has no other option. I was looking at Hotel from outside, it is a busy road, when I get dates I might try Leopardstown and also pm you about the B and B. I can message you through this page. Thanks a lot, hope your treatment went well and you are feeling okayish
