High urine ph from calcium supplements

Has anyone one had high urine ph from taking plant based calcium? My dr wants me to completely stop taking my calcium for 2 weeks to see if that is the reason. Im worried about not taking calcium for 2 weeks but he said nothing will happen in two weeks to my bones. But i believe it is this supplement that help my dexa scan to improve this year. Just looking for other people who may have experienced this.

A couple of thoughts:

* calcium is an inorganic material -- whether it comes from a plant-based source or not

* consider your total calcium intake from all sources not just supplements -- supplements are meant to make up the difference between what you need (RDA) and what you are getting from food

* if you have a high calcium diet you might not even need a calcium supplement every day -- you might only need it on the days when you don't get enough from food sources

* the bone remodeling cycle is quite long -- which is why you only normally have a DXA scan every 2 years

* omitting the calcium supplement for two weeks will probably not have any impact on bone density, especially if your general nutrition (including calcium-rich foods) is good.

Thanks for your thoughts. I am dairy free and have been for years as it caused inflamation for my MS. I tried to get enough from vegtables but it wasn"t enough. So I have been taking

the supplements of about 900 mg a day. My urine ph went up as soon as i found out about osteopriosis and began the supplements. But my dexa scan got better after a year on these supplements. The endo said perhaps the bones like the alkaline situation. But my primary

dr wants to get my ph down. How bad is having alkaline urine of 8? Maybe it is ok. I don't know. My body is so sensitive to everything it seems.

Yes. I had high calcium in my urine from taking supplements and eating a high calcium diet. I was told to discontinue calcium supplements and get my calcium from foods as it is better absorbed.

I take a calcium supplement every morning and my urine pH is actually low at 6.5. My pH used to be 5.0 then my Nephrologist put me on 600 mg of sodium bicarb twice a day. That's what brought it up to 6.5. I am stage 4 kidney disease. Something I want to point out. My wife's calcium was high on her labs for about a year and a half. Her GP didn't think anything of it and turns out she has multiple myeloma. High calcium and lower blood cell counts are something to be aware of. It's like another silent killer.

I don't have high calcium I have high ph of 8 in my urine. I stopped my plant based calcium for 10 days and the dr was right it was the cause as it fell to 7. Being dairy free with osteopriosis i need to take the supplements. The endo though perhaps my alkaline body was what helped me gain bone density last dexa. (but he is not sure). When i go in to talk with my dr i will ask is it really that harmful to be at 8 urine Ph. I already started taking them again because the other calcium constipates me. I was just concerned about the ph because i thought i might have a bladder infection or something. But no. its just my supplements.
