I was diagnosed with osteoporosis earlier this year - early July. I had an DEXA Scan in late June! My osteoporosis is due to my age as I'm now menopausal - haven't had a period in last few years. I also have epilepsy & many epilepsy medications can affect how the body absorbs vitamin D as it depletes it from the bones! This is fairly common side effect of many epilepsy medications apparently unfortunately! I had a very nasty fracture to my right ankle after I my right foot slipped of the last step. I now have a steel screw in the ankle & a titanium plate in my lower right leg.

Welcome to the group and sorry to hear about your right ankle. Since you can’t absorb vitamin d as well, does your doctor have you on a higher dose of it. And if not on blood thinners at you also taking K2 to push the calcium into the bones. ( note: some people on certain blood thinning medications now are ok to take k2)
I'm now taking alendronic acid once a week & have been taking a chewable vitamin D & calcium medication for many years as I had a blood test done which showed that vitamin D was low. Fairly recently - about the time I started taking alendronic acid - which was the time I was diagnosed with osteoporosis - I'm now taking a dissolvable version of it as it hated the taste of the chewable version. It was awful - very chalky taste. The dissolvable version tastes much bstter!
Hello I opted out of conventional medicine for osteoporosis. I take specific supplements under a functional doctor’s care and exercise a lot. My DEXA has improved some with weight bearing exercise and I feel better mentally and physically. The online fitness group that I belong to is offering a free class on Tuesday, September 16 @ 10am EST. If you register, you will receive the replay. The instructors are experts and will let you know how to exercise with your condition. Here is the link:
