Good Morning everyone, I’m new to this site but after reading posts i want to send all a hug. Newly diagnosed osteoporosis and advocating for myself. I see. 4 drs and each one just wanted to give meds with no concern. Different meds.. I’ve decided to breakdown my diagnosis with labs QCT and the Rems. Not one Dr recommended anything.. let’s think, Ca Vit D., K2, Magnesium along with others in order for the bones to receive it.. eating well Weight bearing exercise. Is important..This journey isn’t easy for anyone and maybe in the future I might need medication but I’m going to fight naturally and monitor my levels in my body..God Bless Everyone and Happy Healthy New Year

Good luck. I really hope you can do it without medication. I unfortunately, could not. I tried everything possible and continued to get worse. My only advice is to keep checking and you will know YOU and what YOU need to do. Very personal decision for each person.

Welcome KiaMarie!

So far, I’m like you - despite numerous doctors advising me to take osteoporosis medication I’m avoiding it. Over the years my DEXA scans show that my osteoporosis is gradually getting worse, yet I am able to remain active and have no pain. It’s sad that so many doctors just want to give patients a prescription and send them on their way with no mention of diet, supplements, handling stress or recommending exercise.

Last year I saw a specialist who actually spent a good amount of time with me, did blood work and understood that after weighing risk vs reward I didn’t want to take an osteoporosis drug. As an alternative treatment option, he recommended that I start taking Genistein Soy Isoflavones since some studies have shown it to be beneficial in treating osteoporosis. So, I’ve been taking the Now brand of Soy Isoflavones for almost a year now. One in the AM & one PM. Sadly, my insurance has changed and this doctor who I really liked is now out of network and I’ll be seeing a new specialist in March. I shall see what that brings.

One thing I remember the good doctor saying was to be careful of falling. So, I’m glad that I’m keeping up with yoga which helps so much with balance, flexibility and strength.

Here’s to a happy and healthy New Year to you, too, and to all reading this message.

Thank you for responding, I take balance and strength classes and remain active with the circuit machines. Silver Sneakers Classes are good to take if you can. Being careful and aware of the possibility of falling is a good practice. Stay in touch. I also started taking a collagen supplement that is focused on bone health along with my other supplements.. remember K2 and Magnesium are very important for us
