Prolia - 2nd shot?

I am due for my second prolia shot in March 2025.

No pain from my osteoporosis.

No significant pain from shot. Skin on chest rash, itchy skin after shot for about a month. Some achy joints. More headaches.

I have read on here that if you stop after 1st shot not as bad rebound.

I take pilates class 2-3 times a week and walk. I take calcium, magnesium and K.

I am hypo thyroid/ Hoshimotos. 66 yrs and in overall good healthy.

Considering stopping the shots. Any recommendations?

I had 1 Prolia back in Feb 2024. Had many side effects. Was due again in Aug 2024 but refused. In Nov 2024 I had Reclast infusion. 12 hours after I passed out hit my head hard. Then all the flu symptoms came. Dr said No more Reclast. My body is very sensitive to everything I Put in it.

if you go to melioguide.com, there is a whole detailed section on prolia based on interviews with 3 experts and the science does show that rebound effect is less after just 1 shot but much worse after 2 - I suggest you read the whole section on prolia. It’s clear and well written and easy to understand. Hope it helps! I have just been diagnosed and trying to figure out how to avoid the drugs!

Run, don't walk, run and get this book: The Healthy Bones Nutrition Plan and Cookbook. There are a lot of recipes, but it has a TON of information about supplements and other topics. I make the "Osteporosis Enemy Breakfast," which has 750 MG of calcium from dried figs, apricots, frozen berries, blackstrap molasses, 8 different nuts, 6 different seeds, milk. It calls for raw milk, but I use low pasteurized Kalona buttermilk–340 mg calcium per cup. I don't like that it't weirdly soupy, so I drink most of the buttermilk alongside it and just add enough to the rest of it to get an oatmeal-like consistency. I do supplement with 250mg calcium and some phosphorous and bone meal from a supplement called Bone Matrix by Heart and Soil company. (I only take one of the three capsules per day.). The authors of the book tell you to start at 400mg calcium if you want to supplement with calcium. Be sure to exercise. Do heel drops. Melioguide has exercise programs you can purchase. I think they're good, but I wish they would incorporate actual weights. A word to the wise: Innovix Lab brand K vitamins, which includes both MK7 and MK4. Top rated by Consumer Lab and third party tested by about 4 third party testers. Also, I eat natto 3 or 4 days a week. about 3 tbsp. You can get freeze dried, which I think is best, a brand called Sungiven, which purports to be organic, and I also get freeze dried on etsy. I think the shop is something like Aya. Just search etsy. Everyone hates natto, and I did at first. I don't love it now, but find it very tolerable. I've gotten tons of good information from Margaret Martin's melioguide, but be sure to check other sources to confirm info you get there. I considered a Marodyne plate, but don't want anything to happen to my eyes! It would probably be ok, but I don't want to take any chances.

There are many good pages in the book I tell you about below by Laura Kelly and Helen Bryman Kelly. Page 65 is great because it gives you their guideline for nutrition and supplementation amounts in mg and IU They recommend 800 to 1000 mg calcium per day, for example. I believe that's combined food and supplement source. I try to hit about 950 per day.

Thanks for all the great info! My doc has put me on Fosamax. I have ordered the book and have a mtg with a trainer at the Y to start a strength training program! Diligence seems to be the key!!! Thanks, again!

My second Prolia shot is due in April, but I plan to go on Fosamax instead. Did your doctor indicate how long you would need to stay on Fosamax?
