Well I am going the natural path but there’s no way of knowing if it works until you have another fracture - on the other hand some people take osteoporosis drugs and still fracture. I would be careful with Prolia because if you decide to stop or are even late with your injection you will have to go on a relay drug to avoid rebound fractures. Have you tried an infusion? I’ve heard that people wo don’t do well on tablets are fine with annual infusions.

I am going the no med route for the past 10 years. I haven't fractured anything that I'm aware of, even having fallen a few times hiking with my dogs. My scores continue to decline on my dexi scans but I utilize a healthy diet, yoga, pilates, weight training, posture and balance exercise routines to help keep my body moving. My mom took the meds in her 70's, did the whole on for a few years, off a few years (as doctors say to do) but in her mid-80's began to fracture and continues to do so today (she's 91). She also developed terrible Gerd and has other symptoms related to osteoporosis meds. So I'm not a big fan of meds. If I begin to fracture, I will re-address the use of meds if need be.

I am similar to you. I keep refusing those meds and exercise. I take viactiv calcium. Not sure how effective they are, but so far I feel strong. Thanks for the positive outlook without meds.

I understand- I think possibly us smaller size people - I weigh 115, cannot tolerate the drugs and the dosages have not been varied for weight and blood pressure.

Some of the medicines offer where you can take one tablet per day or one per week or injections that you can start at a low dose.

Which medicine did you take ?

My doctor said I will be on medicine the rest of my life.

I thought I read you did start the meds and are doing ok? I hope that remains true.

Yea it’s complicated bc the question is 4 6 or 8 clicks.

I had the echolight REMS test today and it’s not that bad like the dexa said

Thanks. I'll have to check this out to see where I can find one in a state near me. Good luck with the meds.

The REMS - I Was very unsure if it would be worthwhile but he was very specific about how to interpret the results and understand accuracy of both REMS and Dexa.

The REMS has more reliability than the Dexa. And he said both results are used together to see if the dexa results are valid or off. He explained why my dexa is off. It helped my sanity a lot.

My osteoporosis is really at total fragility score of -2.8 - -3.1 depending on bone. That’s a whole lot better than the -4.7 that the dexa got for my lumbar.

He said the way you create your real numbers are your average each score from REMS and dexa and the midpoint is the real number.

He said if there is an outliar number that just is off the pattern of both results that is the invalid part and the data has to be thrown out .

He was very clear . The REMS is used all over the world and was made in Italy. The FDA has trouble approving it maybe bc it’s an Italian product and they want to approve American machines.

Anyway I still have osteoporosis but my numbers are really much better than dexa assessed.

For me doing REMS was the right decision but my cores are so much better than I thought I wonder if I can go off if Tymlos and go on daily medication . I will talk to doctor about these new results.

That is fabulous news and thanks for sharing this on line with us all. What a big difference in scores. I need to find one near WI and have it done. Best of luck with your meds. What a huge disappointment that the DExi scan was so off and that many worry or take meds based on inaccurate information.

can you share where you found the link to Rems in the USA?

It should be the company Echolight

Thank you very much. I was very on the fence about the effort of going 4 hours each way and spending the money but I learned so much and the peace of mind is important to me. I feel much less nervous now about my bones and future especially because of my fragility score. Also I have this 10 page report for my doctor if he will accept looking at it.

AlgaeCal is all natural. I elected to go the natural route once I read the side -effects of Prolia.

Their website has information on diet, exercise, supplements as well as advise from their experts. Also has a "professionals link" for our Dr's with an open mind who have not sold out to big pharma. algaecal.com/products/suppl...

I was diagnosed 8 mos. ago with Osteoporosis, -4 spine. I won't know the actual success of my chose until my next scan.

My prayers are with you.

There are many different categories of osteoporosis medications. And they work in different ways.

It may take some adjustments to meds such as dosage or delivery mechanism/method of administration to find something that works for you. Or may require a different type of medication.

Unfortunately, insurance companies sometimes "require" that you "fail" certain treatments before they will authorize others. (Many people who have been prescribed meds for high blood pressure will tell similar stories.)

One of the major reasons that the prescription meds fail to work well is lack of patient adherence. But adherence to "the natural way" is even poorer.

"Osteoporosis, a chronic and difficult-to-cure disease, occurs naturally with age. As the lifespan of a person increases, so does the incidence of osteoporosis and the length of disease . Therefore, effective long-term treatment options for osteoporosis are required. Among the various treatments for osteoporosis that are currently in use, pharmacological therapy is the most efficient and accessible, and has been rigorously studied." (Kim B, Cho YJ, Lim W. Osteoporosis therapies and their mechanisms of action (Review). Exp Ther Med. 2021 Dec;22(6):1379. doi: 10.3892/etm.2021.10815. Epub 2021 Sep 28. PMID: 34650627; PMCID: PMC8506919.)

Just be careful, VERY careful. You cannot just stop taking Prolia. If you stop , you must go on something else right away. They are finding quitting Prolia causes spinal fractures. So you may have to go on something like Actonel. Please don't just stop. Generic name for Prolia is DENOSUMAB. Here is the article I found ,from a reputable source. Its pretty involved article , but just the line heading 'abstract' will tell you the info. My doctor argued with me , she knew nothing about this, you might have to print it off and take it to your doc. Seems we have to teach the doctors at times. No one told me the side affects, I guess a lot don't know

.Good Luck

Get a new doctor if your doctor didn’t know . Every endocrinologist knows you can’t go from Prolia to nothing .

It was my family doctor. Before I went into hospital for Vid , I had the best doc anybody would want , when I came out of hospital my great doctor went into counselling b/c of the crap Canadian medical was pulling. So I guess I should be happy that I do have a doc, but if I didn't know better , I'd say she was 12.I have found a way around it. If she doesn't know things I have her refer me to a specialist. May have to wait longer , but get better care. Canadian health care is in the toilet, you're a fool if you give up a doctor.
