I'm not sure that prolia is used for osteoarthritis.Like all osteoporosis drugs its has the risk vs benefit.

It is commonly used by Doctors for the treatment of osteoporosis, as it removes cells from the body that cause bone loss. It has similar side effects to other osteoporosis drugs like osteonecrosis,Femur fractures, the biggest concern for me is if you miss a dose or stop taking it your at increased risk of fractures. The most important question for your MD is what is your treatment plan.

I would consult with Endo if you have not. I just stopped envenity because I developed after five monthly injections right ventricle enlargement. I have never had a heart problem before. I exercised everyday it got to the point where I could barely walk with out becoming short of breath and weaknesses in both legs. Please carefully consider your risk vs benefit, as I should of stopped long before the sixth month.

I hope if you choose to take that it works well for you

sorry I meant osteoporosis rather than osteoarthritis.

I thought so. Have you had any fractures?

So many people do very well on all these drugs. Another important element when taking a new medication is preexisting conditions and how they may affect our outcome when introducing a drug like Prolia.

One reason Evenity has a black box warning is because of heart issues. It is contraindicated with known heart problems, but what about someone who hasn't yet shown signs of any? Evenity and Prolia are both drugs that should be reserved only for those for whom there is no alternative and are at serious risk from very bad osteoporosis. You might be lucky and do well, but if you are unlucky there's no going back.

If you are borderline OP you could consider natural means, whether with or without an "old school" bone med.

Also, hope you were tested for "secondary causes of osteoporosis"? Two links which you may find useful:

get a second opinion. My doctor told me the same thing but after researching prolia I refuse to take it. The dr I saw at the Mayo Clinic said he would not suggest prolia for me but did suggest others and when I declined he gave me a pamphlet about sources of calcium. Do your research before making a decision. Vitamin k2, calcium, magnesium are some of the ones that are suggested along with weight bearing exercises. Good luck in your research.

I would definitely do your research before starting Prolia. I was on it for over 7 years because my doctor was afraid to take me off of it. I developed side effects including gut issues, high cholesterol, muscle anches and skin rashes. Latest research indicates you must relay with a biphosophonate drug such as Fosomax. When you stop Prolia, you are at risk of multiple vertebral compression fractures and a decrease in bone density. Search for articles on Prolia and the rebound effect. I finally went off and I’m being monitored by a rheumatologist. I hope to be off all drugs in another year. I am healthy otherwise and continue to exercise, take supplements and try to eat a healthy diet. Good luck with your decision.

I was initially prescribed Prolia by my NP. She told me a lot of information that was not correct. So I came on to this site and am glad I did.

My choice was to start with the bisphosphonates. Since you will need to use them to wean off the Prolia, I thought I would first find out if I could take them. I have had no problems so far with them, and my bone marker test showed they are working, so for now, I will stay with them for now.

I am more afraid of the Prolia than the bisphosphonates. Is this valid? I do not know.

As soon as you stop Prolia you have to take a relay drug straight away to prevent rebound fractures. Read up about it before you consider it.

I tried prolix (1 injection only) but noticed hair falling out, muscle pain, gut problems, mouth ulcers so refused 2nd needle. Dr suggested continue taking calcium,K2 and Fit D plus exercise regime. My scores were -2.6 femoral neck and -1.7 lumbar spine. Feel good but no idea what the bones are doing!

Meanwhile I have many friends having prolia injections with no concerns or side effects. My Mother took fosamix and had problems so stopped. Wonder if our gene makeup causes sensitivity.

I also did my homework on this drug as it, or Re-Clast was offered to me by the rheumatologist who I saw as a second opinion.

At the time my osteo/ endo was pushing Romosozumab, without checking my family history and three years of Re-Clast to follow and was told no. I read all of the possible side effects of all drugs and opted to take Re-Clast after doing well and a 7 year break.

I have done very well with this. I am good about taking my calcium and drinking alot of water as directed. Hopefully my bone density will be also good in July.

Drugs.com is an excellent source to use as it presents possible side effects as well as mild, moderate and severe drug interactions.

I also read the product website.

Every drug isn't for every person. What may be fine for one may not be for the other.

Stay positive, take a look and decide.

Depending on your age you should think twice about the Prolia, There is a limit on the amount of years you can take it. Please follow Dr Doug Lucas @ Optimal Bone Health, He is a retired Orthopedic Surgeon who now specializes in Osteoporosis and his you tube channel has videos on this topic. I have learned so much from him since my diagnosis.
