On my second pen of Tymlos. Did quite a bit of research on line before starting. I have more concerns about treatment after Tymlos. Anyway, read a lot about mice/rats getting bone cancer/tumors from Tymlos. Does anyone know of any human that this happened to? Thanks.

Hi Joannge, it is not known if Tymlos causes bone cancer (osteosarcoma) in humans. That warning label you mentioned is based on animal tests. I have not heard of anyone getting cancer after taking Tymlos.

I thought, and was hoping, this was the case. Thank you SO MUCH for replying. JoAnn

By the way, my sister-in-law has been taking Tymlos for close to two years now and has been doing well on it.

That's great to hear! I just started my 2nd month. Hoping the maintenance drugs for after Tymlos are just as good. Side effects right now scare me.

This is an article that states the black box warning on Forteo was removed. (this is the warning that states that the medication did cause osteosarcoma in some lab animals). My doctor also told me this in October. I believe Forteo has been on the market for over 20 years, and there have been no cases of the bone cancer in humans.

Tymlos is similar to Forteo, in that it is a parathyroid hormone analog. My doctor said that Tymlos should follow suit, but it has not been on the market as long as Forteo.

I am currently on Tymlos (about 4 months), and was able to get another DEXA scan. It appears to be improving my bone density (had the test done at a different facility, though), and my TBS score was in the "good" range. According to doctor, Tymlos has the most effect in the first 3 months of taking it.

My only side effects were in the first 2 weeks, a little nauseous and slight headache about 2 hours after taking it. Those have subsided.

Hope everything goes well with you. Reach out if you have any more questions, and I can at least share my experience.
