April is National Minority Health Month in the United States, so we took this opportunity let you know about some of the differences and disparities that affect people of certain racial and ethnic groups.

Osteoporosis has long been considered a disease that affects "little old white ladies," and while such women comprise the bulk of those affected by osteoporosis, men and women from other racial and ethnic backgrounds also must take steps to protect their bones. There are a number of other chronic diseases -- and medicines to treat those diseases -- that can increase risk of fractures and that are more prevalent among minority populations.
