Meant to be on diet and exercise but two years of a very stressful divorce, ignoring the copious green veg and exercise and being on antidepressants has put my osteoporosis into the danger zone-3.5 on the T scale.... desperately trying to put it right but don't know if I can.. wonder if I should just take the drugs... feeling miserable
I'm sure anyone can understand how stressful divorces can be. Sometimes, life just moves way too fast and it's hard to catch up! What is your doctor suggesting you do? Did they mention medication? We're here to try and help guide you to make the best decision for you.
At my first diagnosis , I was shocked when my GP automatically put me on alendronates. After chatting to a few people I found a private endocrinologist who suggested monitoring for a while. It's only this past two years that my condition has reached-3.5 t scale for my spine. My wrists and hips are not too bad. I'm not on meds yet. It's my choice now to either visit my GP for what my endocrinologist suggests I look at ( raloxifine ?) or I continue trying exercise and diet alone. We all know it feels like a time bomb inside as I don't know how fragile I am or whether what I'm doing is doing any good. If I try myself with diet etc and I revisit my endocrinologist in 18 months and it's worse, what then?
I am prepared to work REALLY hard to reverse this condition by diet and exercise alone but I can't find any concrete evidence this is possible ?
I'm also having a few dental implants and I know you can't have that and alendronates can you have raloxifine?
I must also make a comment on how supportive this community has been in just a few short days since I was recommended to you. It's a bit of a cliche " you are not alone " but I did feel alone and now I don't
I am on Boniva. I don’t know if I should continue. I took a drug holiday after I had my parathyroid removed I just am not convince. That these type meds really do any good or not. I am 61 years old
I am 63. Have been on Actonel and Fosamex for 6 years because diagnosed with osteoporosis of my hips and osteopenia of my spine. Have had a wrist fracture.my T scores improved a bit into osteopenia. Took a bone holiday for 3 years and I am right back where I started from before medication. Went back to the Bone Clinic and had a Prolia injection. This was the course they recommend going. Seeing an endocrinologist now for elevated PTH. Had parahroid and thyroid scans done to check for adenoma. That was negative. Then it was thought that I do not have primary parathyroidism. The surgeon did a blood test after to rule out hyperplasia of the parathyroids. Even though my PTH is elevated and my serum Ca is borderline high, the ICA was normal, which is the Ca they should use. So they want to follow blood work in 3 months. It has been 8 months since my injection and I need to decide what to do. I really want to explore why my PTH is elevated and fix that and not go on meds. I also am scheduled for an echocardiogram because myocardial effusion was found on a kidney stone x-ray in October. I am having a bit of anxiety over all this. I have a history of kidney stones with one layered. Any advice?
Wow what a journey you have been on. I had similar circumstances. I had an adenoma on my parathyroid. A few years back I underwent so many tests. My calcium in my blood nd urine was high. They did nuclear tests looking forward r the adenoma and nothing lit up. Testing went on forever went for a second opinion. Finally found an endocrine surgeon who did the surgery but of course the osteoporosis damage to my bones is done. I am presently on Boniva but don’t know if theses are doing more harm than good. Keep the faith. Good luck
just healthy diet and using a weight walking vest by nyk no drugs at all and bones are gaining strength.
I am afraid of the drugs heard many bad side effects.
Am completing the 2 year regiment on Forteo. At 18 months, had 12% increase in bone density WHERE my body needed it. Received it gratis from the manufacturer as I researched Forteo nonstop 3 weeks before deciding it was the med best for me. Forteo acts completely the opposite of anything else as it doesn't involve retention of old bone that is normally sluffed off.
Hormone Replacement Therapy. High dose D3 and K2 and cutting right back on wheat and sugar, hope to completely stop eventually, following the carnivore diet. Eating a lot more meat and eggs. Seems to be working well so far. 👍
