I recently started Evista (raloxifene) and wondered how risky it was for me since my'mother died from a stroke. My blood pressure isn't too elevated but I've had high cholesterol for awhile but don't want to use a statin. I've had Dexa scans that say I have osteoporosis (I'm 68) with one vertebral compression fracture at T6. I'm not convinced Fosamax will help with my vertebrae - which I want to preserve the most - since I walk a lot a think my leg bones might be okay. Thanks for any thoughts or experience with Evista.

Hi Yvette, I definitely understand your concern about Evista due to the family history of strokes.
Is there anyone who would like to share their experience with Evista?

I have been on Evista for over 5 years, starting in my early 50s. My new doctor suggested re-evaluating this treatment and we'll be doing a new dexa scan later this year to determine my progress. I have noticed no side effects at all, but as my age increases, so does the risk of strokes. I'll try to remember to update after my next consultation.

Thanks Jogge - It was good to read about your experience with Evista. So far I'm side effect free also. It would be good to hear about your Dexa findings later on. Thanks again.
