weight loss

I have acid reflux and am taking lansoprazole. I have had barium meal and endoscopy which showed nothing of significance. I am losing weight week by week and am now under seven stone.

I have a doctors appointment next week but just wondered if anyone else has had this and what resolved it. I feel like I am just withering away.

Thanks

I am having it now. Lost a stone in 5 weeks with no effort. On 2ww for non specific site cancer. You're doing the right thing by seeing the doctor. Sorry this is happening to you too, I know how distressing it is.

yes thank you. I have just had a scan so I don’t think it is cancer. It’s really frightening.

Yes I did , initially I cut out most trigger foods and changed diet ,I found it distressing how much weight came off triggering health anxiety, weight back on as I eat quite normally at times, although reflux still there in background at times depending on certain triggers

I had gastritis and lost an alarming amount of weight (I had no appetite and food made me feel nauseous). I've been on PPIs for a year and they have helped with my reflux, but I still have frequent swallowing difficulties, as if my oesophagus is narrowed (effect ofthe acid?). I try to eat frequently during the day, every hour or so - sometimes it's healthy food like bananas and sometimes cake! Anything that's easy to swallow, I just want to get more calories. Also milky drinks like hot chocolate, though I know chocolate is not good for reflux. I've accepted that it's going to be a long journey to regain weight - my weight loss happened a year ago - and every half pound is a win . I'm also well under 7 stone so I understand your worry. Like you also, an endoscopy showed nothing alarming so I hold on to that.

I lost a lot of weight about 5 years ago and tried everything I could to get the weight back to no avail. I remembered a doctor who prescribed Culturelle probiotic with Lactabacilius rhamnosus GG strand. Skeptically I tried the Culturelle chewable gummies (which were tasty and good) first but switched the ones the doctor prescribed and decided to order some from Amazon what I thought were the same ones I took years ago (thinking they might be stronger). I’ve taken it now for about 5 weeks and it’s working cleaning out my gut and allowing food and nutrients to process correctly. I took them consistently to get used to them. I have gained about 8 lbs. First I thought the scale might have broken since I really was gaining weight. I’ve undergone years of medicine, including prednisone and antibiotics that messed up my gut. I thought taking probiotics and prebiotics for digestive etc issues would not work for me but they have. I’m on my second box. I hope that is helpful.
