LinX OR Nissen fundoplication

I have a long history of severe GERD that hasn’t responded to medication due to the presence of a hiatal hernia. My symptoms have become so severe that I often experience choking episodes during sleep. Four months ago, I underwent the GerdX procedure, but unfortunately, it didn’t resolve my condition.

Now, I’m deciding between the LINX procedure and Nissen fundoplication. I’m 41 years old and an athlete who actively participates in swimming, running, and gym workouts.

I’m seeking advice from those with experience to help me determine the most suitable option. If you’ve undergone either the LINX or Nissen procedure, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share your experiences and recommend which might be better for someone with my active lifestyle and severe symptoms.

I am also considering Linx. It appears to be a big improvement on the Nissan procedure. I have been looking into it as, like you, I enjoy running and going to the gym. I have not found any information on what impact, positive or negative, the Linx might have on exercise or high intensity interval training. Currently, with GERD, such exercise is discouraged because of impact on the LES. It would be great if anyone who has had either procedure could join the chat. I think the Linx is fairly new with reviews of patients over only the past 5 years.

I was in the same position as you, faced with surgery options. My reflux was so bad it has caused permanent lung damage. I was extremely ill.I avoided surgery by seriously changing my diet for many months.Read Dr.Jamie Kaufman's book Acid Reflux Diet. It may help you.

Hi I was considering the Linx a few years ago. My gastrologist advised against it saying it would make my IBS worse. I have read the the Nissen fundoplication makes it so you can't vomit or pass wind, which to be sounds uncomfortable at the least and quite dangerous I would imagine! I think the Linx has the same outcome but I'm not 100% sure on that. I have been using Iqoro device for over two years. It's a Scandinavian scientist who invented it, and after listening to her research I thought I'd give it a go. It's labour intensive, three times a day, thirty seconds each time. I'm certainly not cured, but I think it's preventing it getting worse? They've had some very good results especially with younger people like yourself. It works on strengthening the muscles inside, so hopefully tightening up the LES. It's worth trying if you haven't already. Good luck
