chest pain

I have been diagnosed with oesophagitis following an endoscopy. various types of PPIs don’t seem to help. I don’t seem to have many of the classics symptoms but do get chest pain most often behind sternum and most often at night. This normally lasts hours. Occasionally, like today , I get shorter bursts of discomfort sometimes on right hand side and sometimes on left. I await ph and swallowing tests. A cardiac cause has meant to be ruled out via normal tests such as Treadmill, CT , MRI and angiogram. Can fellow sufferers let me know if my experience rings true with them and would especially value knowing what your chest pain experience is like and if PPIs have t worked , is there anything that has?

Whereas my experience isn’t the same as yours, I’m wondering if you’ve tried having Gaviscon Advance after meals and especially before bed? Also elevate the head of your bed by six inches/15 cm. If GORD related this should help. PPI best taken in the morning on an empty stomach one hour before eating to be the most effective

Thanks. Did or do you get chest pain?

I only get chest pain when not on a PPI

Ppis don’t stop it for me . I know they don’t work for everyone. I am having a ph test etc but with other symptoms that I have it could equally be vasospastic angina although if so seems mild compared with others

Are you a member of British Heart Foundation community on health unlocked? There is a member called milk fairy who is an expert on vasospastic angina. Worth looking at her posts.

Yes . Have read and private messaged her a number of times . Very informative

No doubt she advised having an angiogram and getting something injected during it. Sorry I can’t remember the name of the medication. If you have vasospastic angina it will bring on an attack which they can immediately reverse but at least you’ll know if you have it or not

I also get chest pain which I find really frightening. I've been on ppis for over 20 years but it worries me because I've lost inches in height and I'm worried about osteoporosis. I take 30mg lanzoprazole in the morning and 20mg famotidine at night, also gaviscon advance 4 times daily. I tried cutting down last week to 15mg lanzoprazole, I only did it for 1 day, now I have the chest pains back! Needless to say I'm back on the higher dose. I have a hiatus hernia but my last endoscopy was fine. Anyway good luck I hope you feel better soon.

It certainly is, it's a life changing condition. When I first started with chest pains they doubled my medication which worked but after 2 months they changed it to famitodine which has eased it a bit but I still occasionally get it. Don't eat anything after 6 30 pm and higher your bed.

These are definitely things I have tried and are helping . How bad would you rate the chest pain when you have it and is it behind the breast bone and can it for example last hours?

Yes it can last for hours but not severe its more annoying and frightening because I start thinking it's my heart as I have 2 stents! I've bought iquoro which is expensive but I'm hoping it helps. Good luck

let me know if iquoro works for you? At the moment I have to say that a combination of eating earlier and raising head well above stomach is having a positive effect and I trust it lasts.

I'll certainly let you know, apparently its not a quick fix but anyway we'll see as I'm sick of all this medication.
