Hi all so finally i think i have an answer to why ive felt like shit for 2 years, had a gastroscopy yesterday and have been diagnosed with sliding hiatus hernia up until now i have been prescribed with nausea medication, and tried gavison and omeprazole non seem to make an impact. They say my hernia is small however im clearly symptomatic. Has anybody had success getting a repair done or is this wishful thinking? I am aware medication can help but for me as a mum of an active 5 year old i would rather have the problem fixed permenantly.

Hiatus Hernia criteria for op?
Hi, I also have a sliding HH (2 cm) which is considered small but still gives me awful symptoms (mostly acid reflux right up into my throat, despite Omeprazole and Gaviscon). Having the Fundoplication operation is quite a big step as I have read some people are worse afterwards and still have to take meds. You could try diet first, no alcohol, fizzy drinks, chocolate, fried foods, tomatoes etc. and see if that helps.
I’d definitely try an avoid the fundoplication operation- it’s not without a lot of risks and even my friends GP said he wouldn’t have it! There are other procedures: LINX, stretta, Refluxstop, basic hiatus hernia repair. Research all of these before you see your doctor again so you know how to discuss next steps. All doctors do seem to push for fundoplication but you can’t burp or be sick afterwards and one of the most common side effects is severe bloating - not good 😩
