Silent acid reflux: Just finished taking... - Acid Reflux Support
Silent acid reflux
Don't wait, I was prescribed three acid reflux tablets before lansoprazole, none worked until I tried this one. Perservere though, It took me about 4 weeks to really have relief from the acid. I'm now almost reflux free but I'm continuing with them for a while longer
Thank you for this Deb2314 I have taken Omeprazole on and off. It hasn't worked for me and this last time I took it I actually felt worse. I didn't think about trying an alternative. I just rely on Gaviscon but my pharmacist says that is not the answer and also has negative such as very high salt. I'm confused but now I think I'll see if I can get an alternative PPI Thanks
Take them exactly as prescribed. I took mine first thing in morning and waited at least an hour before even having a cup of tea. At first I just had water until late morning hoping the tablet would really take affect. But my reflux is so much better now. Only a slight feeling some days
I'm glad you feel better. My doctor has told me its ok to take omeprazole as when needed. My problem is I have silent reflux so I'm not aware of it until I have a burning mouth, cough and mucus build up. I think I will ask for a different tablet and see if it works any better.
I have silent reflux, take pantoprazole once a day, and gaviscon at night. An ENT doctor told me that, for throat issues which silent reflux is, gaviscon on the whole works better. They work differently, and sometimes a combination can work better, but it is sometimes a matter of trying different things to see what works, including diet, time of eating, and sleeping propped up at night. I think you are maybe expecting it to work too quickly. Many people have to continue to take medication, for some time. Mine is now under control, but that's because I take some medication.
I have been told that pantaprazole 40 mg once in the morning is the best PPI. What is your dosage. Omeprazole 20 mg didn't work for me. I am new for GERD/ LPR. Got really bad experience started 1 month ago.
I I was taking a PPI as a protective dose for my stomach lining against the ant inflamatories I was taking for my arthritis. After a serious bout of anaemia, I was also told I had a hiatus hernia. They stopped my anti inflamatories, but they said I should continue with the PPI. For a while continued taking pantoprazole 20mg dose, which just seemed to suit me, until I started coughing, croaky voice, sore throat. I sort of diagnosed the LPR myself, and GP said increase to 2 a day (40 mg)
I had a bout of quite bad reflux, particularly sore throat, and choking and difficulty swallowing. Had a lot of help from ENT, Speech and Language therapy, and barium tests which identified some physical issues, with my voice box, large hiatus hernia, and issue re swallowing. I tried stopping the PPI, and just taking Gaviscon, which is good for silent reflux, but in the end the Speech therapist suggested a combination of Pantoprazole and Gaviscon, last thing at night. Took 2 Pantoprazole per day for a while, but GP said try and reduce to 1. Reflux now fairly under control with a 20mg Pantoprazole, and Gaviscon last thing at night.
Sorry it's a long story. It took time to work out what my specific problems were, and then work out what worked best. It may not be a quick solution. ENT doctor said that Gaviscon works best with throat reflux issues. I don't know whether you've tried it. It is apparently high in salt, so not v good for people with blood pressure issues, but I only take it last thing at night. It works differently from PPIs.
I don't think it will go away entirely. I still get coughing and choking bouts on occasions, but I now know what causes it, and it is manageable.
