yes, I’ve been taking it four times a day since 2018. I have peptac which is the generic version of gaviscon and comes in an aniseed flavour which suits me better. I use the gaviscon travel sachets when I’m out and about. I’m also on pantoprazole.

Does stop your acid

Sorry I missed this - I haven’t been well. Yes it helps but I need the pantoprazole too. Today has been ok till I had an apple. That made it all much worse,

I have conflicting views my doc says take gaviscon. The pharmacist who reviews my meds says take omiprazole because gaviscon is very high in salt and doesn't protect your stomach from high acid. I don't know but the high salt worries me and I only take it at night.

I never knew about the high salt, that's put me off a bit now taking it.

I didn't know about it either. I don't know what to do for the best.

Doctors are useless why give us stuff that's got loads of salt in when they know it's bad for us.

Peptac which I have is half the strength of Gaviscon, so presumably lower in salt, First I've heard of high salt. I take pantoprazole aswell. They have different functions. The PPI ( the ..... prazoles) reduce acid in the stomach, and Gaviscon and Peptac provide a protective layer on top of food in stomach and stop it refluxing. Depends on your symptoms. I have silent reflux which affects my throat, rather than heartburn and ENT doctor says Gaviscon works better on that. If you get reflux at night, then Gaviscon last thing at night is most likely to help.

Yes i have silent reflux and clear my throat all the time from phlegm and most days have sore throat

Do you take any blood pressure medication or have heart disease? If so I would ask your GP about taking Gaviscon, as if you google it, it does say it would not be suitable for those who need a low salt diet. I went through phase of taking it after each meal but my reflux has calmed down and I take 1 pantoprazole each day (a PPI) and peptac just before bed. I do take blood pressure medication because of recently identified heart issues, so it's useful to know.Presumably you aren't taking a PPI aswell, like omeprazole. The two together seem to work for me.

If not easy to see your GP, can you talk to the pharmacist who does your prescriptions, and get their view first. They will have a list of your medications, and know the effects.

Yes will find out thank you

The constant throat clearing is really, really annoying, at one stage I got told it was a "habit" that I had developed, but not at all it is definitely due to the reflux and yes same here with the phlegm... I am not too bad at night, but the minute I get up it all starts over again !!

I take regular Gaviscon (NOT ADVANCED). Does it work as well?

The positives for Gaviscon are that it forms a protective layer on top of the stomach, and helps prevent reflux., whereas the PPI reduces the levels of acid in the stomach.Just tried googling the difference. I think Advance is stronger and it says soothes acid reflux cough. I think double action does provide the protective layer. I'd look at the descriptions on the internet for the difference, depending your symptoms.

Hi. Yes, I'm on the same dose after having a gastroscopy to diagnose acid reflux and an appointment at the Swallow Clinic. It works for me but I also avoid certain foods that exacerbate the condition. Avoid onions, tomatoes, citrus fruits, tea, coffee, alcohol etc. Avoid meand cut back or stop using. I replaced onions for leeks, tomatoes for red peppers. I still have tea and coffee but less frequently. Also drink more water. It dilutes the acid. I hope this helps you.

I never had a gastroscopy they offered me one i refused also refused mri. I had a barium meal and said i had it from that. Mine only started after stopping smoking 7 years ago.

I eat and drink all them you mentioned.

I also had a barium swallow test. You should never, in my opinion refuse a test. It also checks for cancer. Good luck with the Gaviscon. I hope it works for you.
