Hi, my reflux cough is worse in the mornings, where acid particles manage to irritate the throat and airway. It often lasts until lunchtime. I sometimes also get breathless and wheezy with it. You could try gargling with ph water 9.0 first thing and during the day, and swishing it around your throat area, also having sips after meals. It helps to neutralise the acid. I drink a bottle a day. Good luck.
If you have silent reflux, as in not getting heartburn, but have acid creeping back up your throat, then coughing is quite a usual symptom. I have a croaky voice, cough, feeling of acid in the throat. Mine is related to a hiatus hernia, and I do feel breathless frequently but I have about three different consitions that cause it. Have you seen a GP about it, and are you getting any medication. There is a lot of advice on the internet about a reflux diet, in terms of food to avoid. Gaviscon works best on Silent Reflux.
It’s complicated as I don’t have heart burn or feel anything creep up I have emphysema and a constant cough had so many tests waiting for a camera tho
I’m on omeprozale it was the lung consultant suggesting silent reflux
I did get some heartburn initially, but now not at all, I sort of diagnosed myself. Croaky voice and coughing were my main symptoms, but I also did a lot of choking with food going down the wrong way. I take pantoprazole, similar to omeprazole, but an ENT doctor I saw said that Gaviscon is helpful for silent reflux. It sits on top of the food in the stomach and stops it refluxing. Best after meals and last thing at night. The helpful thing for me was knowing what was causing my symptoms after having a Barium swallow. I do have swallowing issues, and problems with my vocal chords, but now I know they are manageable I worry less.
