Definitely difficulty swallowing. I haven't noticed a dry mouth but each of us is different.

Yes, in retrospect dry mouth was probably my first symptom. I used to take a bottle of water everywhere thinking it was thirst. It must be the acid damaging the inside of the mouth; it scares me what it could be doing.

Hi, yes I get a very dry mouth and throat when I wake up due to acid coming up overnight, even though I sleep propped up and take Gaviscon, it still manages to break through sometimes.

Do you realise that the dry mouth is because of Gaviscon not the acid or ppi. I have been taking Lansoprazole for 26 years and sometimes I have to take Gaviscon too. Every time I take Gaviscon I get dry mouth and when just taking Lansoprazole then it is normal.

Hi, yes thinking back it was one of my first symptoms too and I too had to take water everywhere. I tried all the mouthwashes going and nothing seemed to help, in fact you have to be careful with all mouthwashes as they can contain alcohol that can make the dryness worse. I ended up ditching them all and using a salt water rinse, not too much salt though as that can be drying too.

I also changed to an ultra sensitive toothpaste called Closys and they also do a hydrating mouth spray that provides a bit of relief. For me it has improved somewhat even though a lot of other symptoms have appeared since.

My GP recently recommended a product call Larri Oral Spray that helps relieve the acid and the dryness it can cause. That may help worth a try.

Yes I had to buy it too, it wasn’t expensive though, well at least not here in Australia, good luck with it.

It's expensive here £21 for biotine gel

Yes that is expensive, have you tried online sometimes different chemists sell travel packs with smaller tubes/ bottles, at least then you can try it more cheaply to see if it works

Hi Mona, I would have thought it was available in Uk as it’s widely available in most pharmacies here, I would have thought Boots would have it. Have you tried an internet search? It says it’s manufactured by Aspen Pharmaceuticals they may have an information line that you could contact? Hope that helps.

You may not have GERD, but LPR or silent reflux. If you don't get heart burn but acid comes back up your oesophagus into your throat. There is a lot of good information on the internet. I have certainly had difficulty swallowing. Advice about diet etc is the same, but things like Gaviscon are more helpful for throat issues according to the ENT doctor I saw. I get Peptac (similar) on prescription. There are more risks from acid damage. One thing I have found helps between meals is chewing gum with bicarbonate of soda, Wrigleys Extra White Bubblemint is one kind.

I am currently under medication for gerd, prescribe with pantec dsr and omepron, I definitely had trouble swallowing but i never have heart burn. I don't know if my meds are working, but now I could eat properly, the burning sensation on my throat is gone, but everytime I try to eat, I easily get bloated.

It sounds like you have Silent Reflux. I'm not a doctor, but worked out myself that I have acid reflux, but it doesn't cause heart burn, the acid creeps back up the throat and can cause things like croaky voice, coughing, sore throat and difficulty swallowing. The meds to reduce the production of acid in the stomach would be the same for either GERD which causes heartburn, or Silent Reflux where the problems are in the throat, so would be likely to help.

The ENT doctor I saw said that Gaviscon is better for throat problems as it sits on top of food in the stomach and stops it refluxing. Good for last thing at night so it stops acid creeping up when you're lying flat. I can only eat smaller meals now. Advice on the internet is to eat smaller more frequent meals. A nuisance, but a lot of it is trial and error and seeing what works for you. There is useful information on the internet on diet, acidic foods, and things such as chocolate and peppermint can cause problems because they relax the sphincter at the top of the stomach. Who would have thought that.?

I feel like after this meds I am on for gerd, I won't be able to enjoy eating as much as before as I'll be more conscious with the food I'll be putting inside my body, and yes, that is what I am trying to do right nowy, small meals but frequent, but right now, everytime I finish eating, I end up being bloated, might be one of the side effect of my the meds I am currently taking which is pantec dsr. I wanna get better, but having this runs in the family.

Have you talked to your GP about the bloating, or a pharmacist who may be more knowledgable about the effects of meds? There can be alternatives. The trouble with this is that all you can do is manage it, it won't go away completely, but mine is fairly well under control, and I have a fairly varied diet. There are things I know not to eat, and other things I know I can tolerate, after trial and error.
