GERD help

Hi

I have been diagnosed with GERD apparently but I am not convinced. Lanzaprole does absolutely nothing. My ears sting virtually all the tjme, discomforts in shoulder blades and same area at breast bone.

Any other medications work for anyone? I am getting so anxious about it all the Doc had put me on beta blockers. I am paranoid I have cancer. I had a gastro booked and had a panic attack. Now they are considering a barium swallow. What symptoms do you guys have with GERD?

Hi, I also suffer from GERD and acid reflux on a daily basis (night time really, worse when lying down overnight). I am like you and have terrible anxiety, which in turn makes symptoms worse. The pain in your shoulder blades and sternum could be due to long term tension. When I am anxious my chest, shoulders and stomach are so tight and my breathing is faster. I also have cancelled Dr. appointments as last minute to due anxiety. If you find Lansoprazole does'nt help, you could ask to try Famotidine which does not have as many side effects as PPI's. Also Gaviscon after meals and before bed. Hope you feel better soon.

Bless you. You sound similar to me. They have issued me with Beta Blockers to try calm my anxiety. Need to pick those up later. Its hard not to get anxiety though when you are so worried

I was diagnosed with GERD and put on PPIs for months. They stopped working within weeks and the heartburn was daily. Then tried H2 blockers for a few weeks. They didn’t work at all. I developed pins and needles in my feet and got tested for low B12. It was 60, which is extremely low. Now I’m on B12 shots every other day (doctor prescribed weekly) and the heartburn is gone. Somehow it’s related. I also started eating spicy and acid food again.

I don't know which country you are in but I would try an antacid instead of Lansoprazole. There is also a herbal medication called Slippery Elm.I've been worrying for a year too.

I'm sure fundic glad polyps that the pills caused were making me sick and the Lansoprazole was irritating instead of helping the reflux.

They are prescribed far too easily.

I have silent reflux which has a different effect from GERD. Less publicity about it. also called. LPR., The acid doesn't cause Heartburn, but comes up the throat. You may have this and not GERD.I have had a Barium Swallow which identifies what happens when you swallow and how food goes down to the stomach.

I had about 4 experts looking at a video of me swallowing barium mixed with different foods from solid to runny. I was also being helped by a Speech and Language Therapist because I was having swallowing problems, coughing, and choking with things going down the wrong way. She was there aswell, and they were able to identify a problem round my epiglottis where food sometimes got into my windpipe.

It isn't cured, but I know what the problem actually is and how to manage it. The Swallow is quite simple, not painful, and it might help understand what the problem actually is.
