I’ve had three gastroscopies and as far as I can recall I’ve not been asked to come off any medication that reduces levels of stomach acid for any of them. Some tests do require it (24 hour pH monitoring for example), but I don’t think gastroscopy is one of them.
Once you get your letter confirming the appointment it should certainly say on that whether you need to stop any meds. To put your mind at rest you could check with the endoscopy department at the hospital you’ve been referred to.
I agree with Maggie, I don’t remember having to stop omeprazole prior to endoscopy. They should send you paperwork beforehand so that should tell you.
I’m wondering if the Gord has become worse either due to weight around the middle, or menopause.
It something u can discuss.
I had a bad coughing spasm yest set off by reflux, I stupidly bent down to empty the washing machine immediately after I had eaten- nothing more than a snack.
Today I have a bad migraine. Probably all linked.
Plus blood glucose out of control a and my Gp away all week. NO other doctors past 3 days- all involved with vaccinations at Wembley.
I booked the appointment today & the person I spoke to confirmed that I would have to stop omeprazole 7-10 days before the treatment but I can take Gaviscon.
Your Consultant and GP should advise very specific to your case. There will be some diagnostics they may be interested. So do not overworry. Reduce it slowly meaning stepwise reduction for two weeks to completely stop two weeks prior to the scopy.
