I have been diagnosed with H-Pylori and have started the combination of 3 tablets. Has anyone else ever been through this? Any uplifting stories will help! :)

Hi. I was diagnosed with h pylori in October after an endoscopy but no ulcer or gastritis was found.

Did my triple therapy treatment with Amoxicillin, clarithromycin and ppi for 7 days 2 months ago but my increase acidity symptoms are still there. I am on omeprazole 20mg daily to manage this.

My symptoms basically are :

Upper abdominal Stomach tighness

Chest pain (sometimes,)

Felling of lump in the throat

Getting full after eating little food

Acidity is worse when the stomach is empty but also an hour or so after eating

Could all this be because of h pylori?

My doctor suggested testing if h pylori has been cleared but wants me to stop omeprazole completely for 2 weeks which is very difficult.

An alternative he said was then to have another 7 day course of antibiotics and ppi on the assumption that it has not cleared with the first treatment. Would you think this is a sensible thing to do ?

Has anyone experience similar symptoms due to h pylori or could it be something else.

I Don't get any heatburn or food coming back up.

Please go with the adice given by your GP for taking additional antibiotic course and repeat testing post this course to make things more objective.

yes often the course will be repeated for persistent infection. In rare cases it takes a bit longer to sort the h pylori infection. the one week intiial with secnd week followed is normal protocol. There may be other issues as well.

Its more like chicken and egg situation. stomach acid is keeps the duodenum exit section from the stomach bacteria free and in essence keep this area protected. however PPI's reduce the acid production by suppressing it and thus collateral damage of reduction clean up of foreign bad bacterium. but when treating for the H pylori ppi is added.

no gastritis or ulcer is a good thing, one thing less to worry about.

Thank you Mauser. The concern is that if there was no ulcer or gastritis inflammation why do I get the symptoms. There has to be some damage to cause pain and discomfort.

Also taking the second antibiotics course 2 months after the first would that be too soon? Would the is not destroy more good bacteria?

H pylori requires to be confirmed treated successfully. If this is not done suggest get this confirmation. The GI issues go step by step in cases like yours to eliminate perceived or co firmed causes one after other.

Gastritis or ulcer could be chronic and very difficult to manage. So its good that you don't have this illnesses for now.

With pro biotic supplements you can always top up or build good gut bacteria. Give it a try.

Thanks. The issue i have its to test again i have to stop omeprazole completely for 2 weeks which at the moment I just can't do because of the acidity even with omeprazole 20mg

So the GP suggested take the second antibiotics and omeprazole course again

You can ask for gaviscon advance liquid. This may help.

Yes. I have that too. Which I use to supplement omeprazole when acidity increases but it does not have long lasting effect to be used instead of ppi and apparently there are no H2 blockers sold in the UK officially

Yes gaviscon is short period but very effective for that period.Ppi and h2 blockers suppress acid but its git and miss for individuals. Most benefit from ppi than h2 blockers. And even then some brands show variations in effectiveness amongst individuals

If you were been treated for h pylori, it is required to be retested as per protocol to confirm its treated. Else the issue will keep ongoing.

There are other management routines if you want to come off for two weeks. Then diet control, avoiding triggers in total, sleeping upright, trying best to stay peaceful without any stress may help sustain the two weeks period.

Maybe probiotic can be used in this period.

To be blunt delaying further is not going to help either,my view.

Sorry you are going through this. See if your Dr. will give you Carafate . Some people can get by with this for the two weeks. It’s given to people with acid reflux and ulcers but my understanding that it won’t alter the H pylori test.
