Hi guys.

I said I would keep you updated with things, well here goes.

Firstly we went on holiday to Cyprus and for the first 3 days I was quite unwell with diarrhoea, I increased the intake of Loperamide and Creon, still no luck. We eventually put it down to the virgin pina colada’s I had, so stopped having them, things were slightly better . But still had to double up on medication to function.

when I got home I had a phone call on the Wednesday morning with a colonoscopy booked for the following monday. Along with a Endoscopic dialatation on the Wednesday.

Did all the prep on the weekend for the colonoscopy, although didn’t need much as I ended up with severe diarrhoea again on the Saturday. So by the time I had to do the prep not much was left !

Fast forward to the monday……. My Bi Polar had kicked in big time and I could t stop crying, our hospital aren’t really that sympathetic and I was left on my own to get on with it,

The procedure itself was uncomfortable to say the least, the Dr said he couldn’t give me too much sedation even though I couldn’t be “ topped up “ with gas and air because of my partial lung collapse. I had to scream at him twice to stop the procedure as I couldn’t stand the pain. In the end I had one nurse pushing on my stomach to squeeze my bowel down as to be able to get the scope through.

I have a thickening of the bowel, which they have taken biopsies from, also 4 more biopsies from other areas, awaiting results from them. But, what did shock me a bit was another, more experienced doctor was asked to come in to take a look and he has confirmed that I have Colitis spots! One thing I was hoping I didn’t have. Obviously I will have to wait for the results of everything to see exactly what is going on. I am still having problems keeping food in, but not quite as bad now.

Then on the Wednesday of the same week, I had a endoscopy with tummy dialation. So glad they do that under general anaesthetic. All went well with that apart from the anaesthetist was a bit rough and I haven’t been able to eat since as I can’t swallow, it also feels like there is a little “ flap “ at the back of my throat, especially when I cough, there seems to be a lot of phlegm too. Has anyone ever experienced this after an endoscopy ?

Well, that’s where I am at for now. Very grateful that nothing nasty seems to have been found. Although, never count my chickens until their all in !

thanks for reading guys. Any feed back extremely welcome.

June.

Do hope you are improving. Sounds like you had an unpleasant experience. I wish you well for the future.

Thank you Mardri,

Still can’t swallow properly, but that will settle I am sure. As for the rest, just the waiting now . Will update when I have the results.

All the best

Hi Popsic

That all sounds really unpleasant. What I don't understand is why they couldn't do both procedures under the general anaesthetic at the same time?

It doesn't sound to me as though you have microscopic colitis as they can only see it using a microscope, the bowel appears normal to the naked eye, it is only when they look at the biopsies taken that they can tell. Colitis you can see with the naked eye.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about colitis so I'm not much help.

Ahh bless you for replying to me. According to the “ visiting “ doc, he saw colitis, so will be interesting when I get the results of the biopsies. I am just praying that nothing else untoward turns up.

It really wasn’t a pleasant experience and fills me with dread should it have to be done again. I honestly don’t know why they couldn’t do both procedures together, it made sense to me and I know they do do them together.

How do you deal with your colitis, it seems to me I am going to have to re think my whole eating regime again,

All the best

Hello, I haven’t experienced any of the above apart from the endoscopy, dilation.

How are you doing now?

Hi Jennie,Getting there slowly, thank you. Still can't swallow properly but it's getting better, have had 2 dilations previously, but the side effects have never lasted this long.

How have you been with yours, has it worked for you ?

Still waiting on test results and next part of my journey. Taking it all as positive though.

All the best

Morning June

Weirdly I didn’t have a sore throat this time, hope your feels better soon.

It is hard to stay positive sometimes especially if it feels like “what now” but then I ground myself, take some deep breaths and say, right, best foot forward.

I ate well yesterday, small and often although my last meal, even though small was too much and I had a ready meal (my lazy mistake) which had onion in it!! left me burping all night!!

So home cooked from now on, I will do some batch cooking this weekend for the freezer for the lazy days.

I have a gut feeling, haha that I do have this hiatus hernia but will have to wait for the barium swallow to confirm it, I have a date 27/11 and I am on the cancellation list, I hope I am wrong.

Hope your results come through soon, the waiting never gets easier does it.

Take care June

Best wishes Jennie ✨🌻

Ahh JennieI always try to do homecooked meals but sometimes we just need a break! Don't be too hard on yourself. Trouble is, we do suffer don't we ?.

I hope you get your barium swallow sooner, it's the waiting I hate the most.

I have been discharged from the pancreatic team today, so that's good news.

Just the biopsies to come now, also no idea what's happening about the colitis, don't know if I will be referred anywhere, or what treatment I will have, if any.

You take care of yourself, let me know if you get seen sooner, if you wouldn't mind.

All the best

Hi June

I guess any treatment you get for colitis will depend on your symptoms and how badly they affect you.

When I was first diagnosed with microscopic colitis I asked for a referral to a dietician and they put me on the low FODMAP diet which I did find helped considerably for about three/four months and then my symptoms came back, sadly. It's not a diet you can be on long term anyway, it's quite restrictive but worth a Google. I probably found it easier to stick to than most people as I'm Coeliac and have to avoid gluten anyway.

Presumably you'll get an appointment with Gastroenterology to discuss their findings?

Thank you for your reply Welltravel. To be honest I don't eat much gluten as I find it causes problems with bloating etc. I do keep a food diary so I can track what causes problems. At the moment u am doubled up in pain because I ate 1 slice of pizza about an hour ago. Haven't had pizza in ages, won't be again lol.

I haven't heard anything from the hospital yet since the colonoscopy, but I am assuming I will see a Gastroenterologist at some point. For now, I will be watching very closely what I am eating. .

All the best
