Hi,
Stay calm and bit less anxious please.
Two things here.
1. Ongoing pain is not resolved yet, at least you may had had relief but it has proped up again. Do get in touch with your GP and state the pain and request next protocol help.
2. Biopsy result. This must be sent out to your GP and you can request for a print out of the letter consultant sent to your GP. Its good you picked it up. The way our system is built is not proactive preventative, my views only. And I could be wrong more often than otherwise.
Its good the cell growth was noticed and tested jn lab. Immediate thing will be to heal the gastritis for more holistic way so as to not let the damage continue for the cells already damaged.
Ask for the GI secretary to have a telephone consultation to discuss the way forward for the biopsy result. Ask for treatment plan for root cause fix to avoid the pain recurrence and if the diagnostic can be done for genetic stream.
There are more ways to heal the gastritis than only esomeprezole. For example diet control, conokete stoppage of recreational tobacco, alcohol and drugs, Passive smoke inhalation, coffee and acid inducing drinks.
most importantly attaining and sustaining mental blissfulness without which No medicines can fix the chemical inducement caused by stress and anxiety, without disturbing your chemical balance of the body.
One thing is for sure, the cells changed the structure due to something, have that investigated to try and see the root cause. Be genetic or lifestyle or sometimes unfortunately not being able to put a point on a diagnostic. What future holds is dependent upon what you know about what the damage was caused by and what can you do about it going forward to stop the damage and rebalance the cell transformation.
You have done right thing to seek help in this forum and please do continue to seek help in all available resources near you.
Clinical advice is best to be sought from your GP and GI team with whom you are already dealing with as they have your full history as well results. Please note that the GI consultant must definitely have shared the biopsy result to your GP who referred you to him/her in first place.
Persist on root cause fix for the gastritis rather than day to day symptoms management for long term. In my personal (and non medically qualified) opinion your case requires more serious look into resolving the recurrence of the pain for long term. And make no mistake that this requires your active participation in managing your lifestyle diligently as well.
I think you are faced with three issues.
1. The perceived indifference and poor communication of your consultant to your condition.
2. Your understanding of metaplasia.
3. Your discomfort and medication.
I suggest your first step in resolving all of these must be to see your usual physician (GP) and restate your concerns about your discomfort and medication (3). This will give you the opportunity to get a medical opinion on metaplasia (2) and a letter or report reference your consultation and the the biopsy (1). Your GP should have been sent a report stating the outcome of your consultation and can press for an answer or complain as appropriate.
Until then I wouldn’t be too worried as Dr Google has not seen your medical history, biopsy or the results of your endoscopy (only mild gastritis). It maybe very inconsequential metaplasia and a change in medication (type and/or dose) will give you an immediate improvement.
Good luck and stay safe.

About the only thing I may be able to help with is the omeprazole. My gastroenterologist gave me advice I had never heard before and that is 1. Take 1 hour before eating on an empty stomach. 2. It doesn’t neutralize acid —shocker to me, and suggested after eating a meal or drink heavy in acid like tomatoes, to take a couple Tums in addition.
I have achalasia and take 40 mg in the morning and 20 mg at night. Yes, a heavy dose. I wouldn’t suggest this for every one! Not so great for osteoporosis. Oh, and make sure you have elevated the head of your bed!
Hiya, I just wondered how it’s going with the intestinal metaplasia, what sort of treatment have you been offered? My mom was just diagnosed with the same, plus severe gastritis but like you all they have done is increase her dosage of omeprazole. I’ve also googled it and think I know a little bit more about the condition although it doesn’t really give any clear info on treatment. Be good to share your experience of the condition with my mom. Anyway, hope you’re feeling better.
Hi , I have spoken with the gastro doc and he says it is found in 1 in 4 endoscopies and is a benign condition , I am having repeat endoscopy in 3 years .
Could I ask if you are still taking a PPI? The letter to my mother said 3 yearly endoscopy too which I’m not so happy about as she had one in Dec 2018 and there was no sign of IM then, or they didn’t pick it up, so all this change has happened in 2 years. Hopefully we’ll be speaking to the consultant soon.
