Tired of clear fluid gas bubble

Hi, I am an Ovarian Cancer patient for 3 years, 3 surgeries, all the chemo you want, targeted therapy, you name it. Disease is stable, no chemo since Nov. 2016. Ok, just got out of the hosp. because of vomiting continuously. They stop it and sent me home today, with still the clear fluid gas bubble that I manage to bring up, without vomiting. Sometimes it takes a couple of hours to get relief. Right now on Zegerid 20, reglan, and I do have the Zofran tabs to dissolve under the tongue. Anyone out there that can relate to this?

It's not entirely clear from your description what is happening.

But if you mean very clear and bright viscous mucus containing very many pea sized bubbles then this is bicarbonate mucus secreted by the lining of the stomach in order to protect itself from the strong hydrochloric acid also secreted for the purpose of digesting food.

If your intestines are otherwise normal then this should not be happening. [Unless there is a known side effect of the medication you have been prescribed]

Otherwise this symptom together with your report of vomiting, although your chemo was stopped a long time ago, might indicate paralysis of peristalsis or some other blockage like a failure of the pyloric sphincter or a twisted bowel.

It seems extraordinary that you have been discharged from hospital in this condition.

If it persists and you are unable to eat normally then I think you should be investigated as a matter of urgency by a gastro-enterologist.

If you have any evidence of fever go to A & E immediately.

My Wife went through Esophageal surgery and the removal of her Esophagus 10 years ago, and still has huge amounts of mucous she has to spit up. The Doctors we have talked to do not seem to have an answer.

The mucous or phlegm is so plentiful and viscous that it chokes off her breathing, and makes eating and sleeping difficult.

Tx. We spoke to our GI Doc this morning. He told us to go aggressive with double dose of Domperidone before meals and at night, Zofran dissolve tabs the same to see about waken up the GI track do in part of Fentanil patch 75 mc. Well see.

Serious Side Effects

In addition to birth defects, Zofran and other versions of the drug have a list of other side effects, some of which are serious, including Serotonin Syndrome and QT Syndrome.

Serotonin Syndrome

This occurs when too much serotonin is present in the body. This is a serious condition that can be life-threatening. Symptoms include high fever, irregular heartbeat, seizures and unconsciousness.

QT Syndrome

Zofran can affect the electricity in the heart, causing erratic heartbeats that can be fatal.

Other serious side effects include:

Blurry vision Shortness of breath

Confusion Excessive sweating

Seizures Coma

Loss of consciousness Chest pain

Hives or rash Swelling

More common side effects are:

Headache Constipation

Weakness Tiredness

Chills Drowsiness

Diarrhea

Drug Interactions

Certain drugs may increase the risk of serious side effects when used with Zofran, Zuplenz or generic ondansetron. These drugs include:

Apomorphine

Phenytoin, Carbamazepine, and Rifampin

Tramadol

SSRIs like Paxil and Zoloft

SNRIs like Cymbalta and Pristiq

Hi. I have this all the time. So far my medical team don't have the answer. I have been suffering this for 3years. I sometimes manage to vomit up the gas before the food, but mainly the food comes up first, hence huge loss of weight. I have recently found eating extra strong mints have helped a lot. Also going against medical advice and lying down after eating helps.

How curious ....... the peppermint has an effect on your gastroparesis but Metoclopramide did not. What does this indicate about the state of your pyloric sphincter? Have you had a stretch?

Equally counter-intuitive is lying down - despite an assumed failure of peristalsis gravity doesn't seem to help.

On de-gassing: I have taught myself the following trick which I find is infallible - I stand facing away from the side of the bed then allow myself to fall backwards, bending at the knees but flexing at the waist so that when finally in a sitting position my torso is leaning back at 45 degrees. This results in an huge belch (gas only, no mucus or food) which I assume is provoked by the impact jerk on the pseudo-stomach tube.

Give it a try, if it works I''ll tell you where to send the royalties.

How are you avoiding malnutrition?

Have your team taken you through the last resort options, which are:

(1) create a new opening between your stomach and small intestine (gastroenterostomy)

(2) connect your stomach directly to the second part of your small intestine, called the jejunum (gastrojejunostomy)

Hi unlike you I didn't have chemo or anything like that I did have gastric surgery the Nissen fundoplication procedure it's been going on 3 weeks and I can't keep anything down except for yogurt which is very strange to me I vomit water I vomit juice I vomit just about everything and I'm getting those big bubbles like you are getting it's very frustrating and depressing cuz I want to be able to eat my doctors seem to think that I'm just constipated but I don't think that's the problem I think my procedure came undone and I'm having more problems but due to this virus going around the Coronavirus they don't want to admit me to see what's going on I am on the Zofran which I absolutely do not like because it moves out from under my tongue and it tastes awful I am on Raglan before each meal but that's not even working now either I've done enemas everything I can to try to get all this extra air and gas out of me but to no avail keep me posted on how things go with you
