I got my five year all clear yesterday. It has been a long and at times arduous five years but I have reached the milestone. My medical team deserve huge thanks and the support of family and friends (including you) has been vital. After a pint I celebrated with a three course meal of crab beignets, grilled smoked haddock and ice cream. That was washed down with a decent Sauvignon Blanc. And an espresso. A three course meal doesn't always work. Sometimes it gives me cramps or makes me sleep or reappears. Last night it was almost like old times.
In the morning I received an email saying "Dear Dr Soper " , the formal advice that I'd got a PhD. What a day. What a day. All I need now is for Leicestershire County Cricket team to beat Glamorgan over the weekend ; a third miracle.

That's wonderful news. I'm also so pleased to hear about the amount you were able to eat! I'm only 15 weeks after the operation and still getting used to very small portions so glad it might get better. Congratulations again.
Good luck Carol. I remember setting myself eating targets. First was fish and chips. Then meat. Then steak and chips. This allowed me to measure progress. As I said I still have an unpredictable digestive system but I am here. H
Congratulations Howard. I got my 5 year badge round about March 2017. Quite emotional when not expecting it. Still have ‘negative thoughts ‘. Might it come back etc? Unpredictable effects from food. Disappointed that I am unable to eat what I used to enjoy but I am here thanks to the fantastic team at St James’s, Leeds
hip hip Howard. Will be looking forward to my 5 yr meeting in Nov (the op was 5 yrs this month). The power of positivity and the help of family, friends and the medical team cannot be praised enough as you say. Can't remember the last time i finished a meal but at least we have a meal, unlike some. Enjoy your life x
