So, as you know OCD is triggered by stress and recently I've been really stressed and I've noticed my OCD has been getting really bad again. Can you share some coping techniques please?

Have you tried Mindfulness meditation ? If you look up Jon Kabat Zinn or Mindfulness you should find the list of cds which do help.Lots of books too, but doing 15 minutes of meditation each day (longer if you can) should be calming

Dear Katherine

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have very mild Asperger's. Asperger's is milder Autism. I am 28 years old.

Anyway, I have OCD and the best way to manage this is to try either CBT or by meditation and relaxation. I saw an occupational therapist in the past and I have made up a daily diary and I tick off what I have done listing the (priority) most important things I need to get done at the very top and the least important things at the bottom. Remember to make a list and tick them off each time you have done them. Also Exercise is another useful tool. Do you like to go to the gym or swim?

I have also taken Clonazepam/Pregabalin my neurologist suggested this. It is usually the treatment for epilepsy or seisures but apparently it can calm down the central nervous system. Also have you tried propranol? That can reduce anxiety and palpitations, it is a beta blocker. I have tried both and propranol can help with social anxiety too.

I have a thyroid problem so this doesn't help because I get panic attacks as a result as well as palpitations, although not so much now that. I am learning ways of coping and I have had a lot of counselling. Have you seen a counsellor or a behavioural therapist to help!?

I find swimming and working out is good. It helps harmonise serotonin levels in the brain. I also go for long walks to relax and relaxation is the key thing Katherine.

OCD I think is an anxiety disorder and I am still having problems with sleeping at night. My OCD also causes insomnia and this leads on to make me feel miserable the following day.

The user above has made some interesting points. I do not know if it is purely stress that can trigger off OCD. I think there are a lot of factors that can sometimes fear, traumatic events!? What has made you stressed? Has anything traumatic happened in your life may I ask?

Apparently the chemical that triggers off OCD is the same that triggers off ADHD or ADD.

I still have trouble and tend to double check things and I am obsessed about certain things. Such as making sure curtains are pulled equally or the cans are stacked facing right and before I get into bed to rest. But when I am in bed I worry about something again which makes me get out of bed hence insomnia. I have the need to double check things and wash my hands. I fall asleep with unwanted thoughts that just coming to my mind.

This is causing worry in me and I hope this will not have an impact on a relationship, because I am single right now and I would not know if disclosing OCD to my girlfriend (when I have one) is a good idea.

Do you parents help? Are they supportive? What sort of OCD do you have?

I suppose we have to be greatful because OCD is not a virus and cannot cause cancer - most people with OCD are really clean which is what I like and I hope to find an OCD girlfriend.

Famous actresses like Cameron Diaz had it. - She would rub every doornobs clean before opening to clean them. Marylin Monroe had it, Beethoven, Albert Einstien (Physician) had it bad. Also Charles Dawin (evolutionist), Leonardo DiCaprio the actor had it bad too.

Michael Jackson was OCD you could tell, same for Howard Hughes. - He was obsessed with cleanliness. David Beckham has it too. So we are not alone in this.

Would love to hear more about your condition and if we can help each other then that would be ideal.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks & Kind regards

Sean
