Has anyone got to the point where they cannot go to work, I feel I’m at that point as I’m not working and the thought of it seems to overwhelming for me at this stage.

I've been there and done that! Having OCD can affect so many areas of your life, and hem you in with so many rules and rituals, that it can become really difficult to do your job. Travelling to work can be difficult as well. Also OCD can make it difficult to concentrate properly.

If going to work and doing a job is too much for you, make sure you get help in the form of benefits. It does involve an assessment of fitness to work, which is difficult and traumatic in itself, but once you've secured the benefits you're entitled to you should feel better.

At any assessment, don't be tempted to minimize how bad your condition is. Many of us put a brave face and make out we're not feeling too bad, and cover up our OCD behaviour. I'm not saying to lie to an assessment, just to be truthful and admit that you really are not in a fit state to work.

And don't be ashamed. It can feel as though you're scrounging, but you're entitled to be maintained while you can't work. Take care of yourself, do what you can, and think about what sort of work you'd really like to do.

OCD can make any job many times more difficult as if the modern work place isn't stressful enough already. I've had jobs where I felt like I was only half functioning because the OCD was so distracting and its exhausting just trying to hold it all together. Its actually a good move to take some time out from work because then you have a chance to help heal yourself or at least work on the OCD to the point that it becomes more manageable. My experience with OCD is it just gets worse unless you intervene in some way.
