Health anxeity changing

Hi guys,

I’ve noticed that once i stop worrying about one thing i start worrying about another. At the moment I have had an old fear come back which is my fear of getting Tetanus. I recently stabbed myself with a metal pin (half way through my finger) and now i am having unstoppable thoughts about getting Tetanus. My last vaccination was in march 2014 and i’m worried that i should of had a booster. ( i completed my 3-1 teenage booster). Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi there. What you're going through is completely normal. I,ve had Health anxiety for 20 years and I've had all the illness included in the vademecum and others that does not exist 😬 the content of the obsession change with every worry you might have. Now I am waiting a mole biopsy and I am terrified, taking anxiolitics and stuff. My advice is try to distract with everything you can(hobbies, socializing...) Meditate or pray(whatever works for you) and don't react to the monster( do not ask for reasurance, don't avoid, don't search info on the internet.. ) I am using meds and I have educated myself in ERP and ACT. If you could find a good therapist that would also help. I feel your pain. Be strong 💪

I had a tetanus obsession when I was about seven or eight. I could feel my jaw tightening and getting stiff! Of course it was rubbish.

I'm no medical expert but I think tetanus injections are every ten years. So it should be all right. In any case tetanus is pretty rare. It sounds as though your pin adventure hasn't had any adverse consequences, apart from the anxiety.

That's the nature of OCD. Something that hasn't given you any trouble for a while will suddenly rear its ugly head, and invade your thoughts. And the gap left by a worry that has left you gets filled by something else. Keeping busy and distracting yourself can help.
