I am in England so the FDA doesn't apply here. Our medications are approve by NICE.
I can't say that there is a best antidepressant, as different meds suit different people. Some can't tolerate particular meds and have to switch to another.
The standard medication for OCD is sertraline, which is an SSRI antidepressant. I take it and have done for quite a few years. There are other SSRI antidepressants which are very similar, but different ones often suit different people.
An older drug called clomipramine used to be the standard and it is still used, though increasingly difficult to get hold of. It is very effective for OCD and I took it for many years before I took sertraline. The downside of it was that it made me drowsy.
I also took clomipramine many years ago; it was really effective in stopping the intrusive thoughts, but I developed trembling hands and had to give it up. Initially, I was jubilant with the release of the obsessive thoughts. I was so disappointed that the side effects necessitated giving it up. But, at least it showed me that the obsessions/compulsions were in fact an illness and not my flawed character. That meant the world to me!
Everyone responds different to a wide variety of meds for OCD but I have always taken fluvoxamina and it has worked well for me(with side effects as all SSRS) You need to try which one works best for you, it is very personal...good luck👍
