Hi everyone, I'm hoping to visit my doctor tomorrow about how bad my ocd has gotten and I wanted to see what medication people were on that they found actually helped eleviate the ocd.

I really can't deal with how bad it has gotten as its taken over my life so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I honestly wish that cure was available for this cause I would jump at the chance to get my life back to how it was

The medication usually offered to OCD patients now is an SSRI antidepressant such as sertraline. I have been on it for some years, and found it works well. A high dose is 200 mg a day, which I was on for quite a while, but I am now on a very high dose of 300 mg a day. This is boosted by 5 mg a day of aripiprazole, an antipsychotic occasionally prescribed to OCD patients in low doses alongside sertraline. I'm not psychotic, but it does help to make the sertraline work better.

Not everyone gets on with this medication, and some people have side effects which can outweigh the benefits. An older medication called clomipramine, which is a tricyclic antidepressant, can be used instead. I took it for many years and found it a good one, the only drawback being that it made me very drowsy. The problem now is that it can be difficult to get supplies of it.

I too can only wish there was an easy answer to OCD! Accept the CBT if it is offered, or request it if it isn't. It isn't that easy to do but it can have good results. It's a bit like dieting, I suppose: it isn't easy to do but nobody has so far come up with anything better or more effective!

I know how lousy you must feel, as I've been there, done that and got the T shirt! It is possible to get your life back on track and feel better.

I was given sertraline for everyday use and then propranolol for days that I become overwhelmed so I'm hoping this will have a good impact on me.

I hope it does. I have anti-histamines called Phenergan for when I need a bit extra. I think the ones you have are beta blockers.

I take fluoxetine - it doesn’t get rid of OCD but I do notice a difference in how I deal with the intrusive thoughts when I am taking it vs not taking it

I have tried fluxotine but it was giving me a constant lighthead so I had to come off it. But thank you 😊
