Morning all,

For the last 3/4 years I’ve been experiencing the following.

I listen to music, programmes or just general chat with others and if a word/saying is mentioned which I don’t understand I obsess about it googling what it means then question my intelligence. It also happens with work I understand what I’ve read but question myself. I also them get brain fog and can’t move on from that word and gets me very down but I wouldn’t say depressed.

Hope this is understandable

That is quite common with OCD. It's a sort of obsessive pursuit of one particular goal that doesn't let you go until you've sorted it. And then because OCD is always making you doubt yourself, you are convinced you haven't sorted it.

It's like being stuck in a loop. The more you pursue it, the more you doubt yourself, and that makes you pursue it more. It's a typical sort of vicious circle.

I'm not surprised you get brain fog! Perhaps take a breather, leave the word or phrase for the moment, and decide to pursue it later on. Then reread it and you'll often realize that you do know what it means. If not, google it or check your dictionary, or whatever, and leave it again. I know it's not as easy as I make it sound, but if you persevere with this you can break the cycle.
