hi, have you spoke to your GP about this there is a lot of things to help OCD these days councilling i thought was good for me im also on medication now and i have 4 good days out of 7 in a week i still have my days also it will get better x
I have been for cognitive behavioural therapy before which I hated to be honest but never had medication for it I was offered but turned it down at the time because I was only 18 so I didn't really understand it all x
Im on my medication 3 years now i was offered it at the age of 12 my mam said she turned it down as i was far to young i would have been that bad then but i fighted it and learned to live with it i find the medication helps me a great amount i still have my days dont get me wrong but its managable theres know harm in trying it out for yourself xx
If only we could get rid of it by just wanting it gone! Cognitive behavioural therapy is certainly hard going, but it can be effective. Do try antidepressants as they can make it more manageable. I take Sertraline and it helps a lot, and has few side effects, for me at any rate. Also try self-help books. Overcoming OCD in the Overcoming series is very good.
Hi Isabelle,
OCD - it's a thing! Just a bit of a glitch that has become part of who you are. It may or may not go away but maybe you could make peace with it and accept it for what it is to try and help alleviate the effects of it.
My hubby has OCD and has had it at least 30 years and it is so complicated.
I have recently suggested meditating to him. So far he has declined.
I meditate every day for 15 minutes. That's all.
The reason for suggesting meditation is because by doing it daily, it can help to quieten the mind. Of sorts, it can just help press the reset button for just a while. I enjoy it. It often will help me sleep.
I think that I have found the best meditation that I could point you in the direction of if you felt you might like to try it.
It does have a story behind it which could be a whole new and good discovery for you and it is easily free and available on YouTube. It's very nice and very soothing, very pleasant and relaxing.
If only I could persuade hubby to do it.
I won't put the link on here yet because I have only just joined this group looking for advice for myself, realizing that I am on the spectrum of OCD myself.
I will have to ask admin if it is O.K to do so first as I do not wish to overstep the mark.
Please do write back to me if you feel my suggestion could be of help to you. I will reply as soon as possible. I tend to forget a lot of things that are important but it isn't intentional so bare with me.
Best wishes,
Andi.
I have had OCD since I was six years old with really no relief. Recently I have tried a supplement I bought at the vitamin store called NAC and it has changed my life! It apparently works for some people who have OCD, if you feel the way I did, you'll try anything to help!! It's worth a shot with no real side effects!!
