After many X-rays and scans b’cos of hip pain and mobility problems I was told I had osteoarthritis and would need hip op, now after visit to MSK clinic I have tranch ??? Bursitis of hip and an op would not make any difference! I am now waiting for a steroid injection and more painkillers And on list for physio and hydrotherapy at my local hospital. This has been going on for many years and my mobility is really bad and left hip very painful, has anyone else had this diagnosis???if so, any tips please, I am very confused!

Couple of links on Trochanteric Bursitis -

Doesn't mean you don't have arthritis in your hip as well.. but get the TB sorted out - and then see how things are.

Yes it is, my gp has prescribed me Celecoxib 100mg x 2 a day to help with pain but I am not happy about the side effects, also some reports online it can be dangerous and some say steroid injection will not help!! X

steroid injections very often depend on the person wielding the other end getting it in the exact position! 😉

I had one last year that was targeted, it was for what I thought was osteoarthritis of my hip now diagnosed as bursitis ?? It did help a bit but still had to take painkillers and still limping on left side, I have to use walking stick indoors and outdoors now. X

With my reply with a link I should have said. My physio has prescribed exercises that I do daily and I already take quite a bit of different pain medication. Plus I take turmeric.

Dorsetlady,

That is exactly spot on correct. My GP administered a steroid injection into my right shoulder in April 2022. I was quiet happy with the prospect of being pain free for 6 or 9 months .......... but hey ho here I am still pain free nearly 2 years later.

Now waiting for this rotten post CoVid NHS to sort out the left shoulder. Grrrrr!

Me too. As soon as I was off steroids I was hit this past year with everything including hip.It started on my 1st trip off steroids so I initially thought it was sciatica so saw massage therapist upon return and chiropractor. From April to June I saw these people and wasn't really improving. Pool got open so felt better then my rhumitologist said it was bursitis.

Almost a year later all in pain I got a shot and didn't work.

1yr later back on same trip and GP will refer me for a specific directed shot using ultrasound.

If that doesn't work I don't know, maybe life.

I thought I was on waiting list for hip op well over a year ago so feel I could have had physio and injection ages ago! I think I am being fobbed off by the nhs or they don’t know what they are doing. ? Unfortunately I cannot afford to go private for another opinion so just have to go with the flow and play The waiting game again !

Told I have bursitis in one hip and as long as I'm careful how I move the hip it doesn't trouble me too much. I get much more pain from my knees, need a replacement for one but with the help of steroids and very gentle exercise I'm holding off for now.

Didn't your rheumatologist explain bursitis? Inflammation in the fluid sacs "that cushion the bones, tendons and muscles near your joints". Thats where the pain comes from. There's lots of information about it on the net xx

I'm sorry to see you're suffering...rest when the pain hits badly, that helps as well. I take codeine these days, tramadol is powerful but unfortunately it makes me feel sick. Take care x
