I was wondering if anyone had any kitchen gadgets they use that they could pass on the details as I need a new can opener and can't use the normal ones so any ideas would be great. Thanks

Hiya Nicki,

i've been using an electric can opener for many years. I've also used a gadget called the EZE Opener for jars and bottles since I was diagnosed.

It's a large handle with a rubberised adjustable strap. It's been the only one of the many jar openers I've had any luck with. They can be hard to get hold of now, but there is a similar product called the Boa Contrictor (available from Amazon and some DIY stores) Well worth looking at, and I know some folks who use 2 of them one for the jar and one for the lid. the rubber strap is really grippy and won't slip.

We had a meeting of the Solihull NRAS group where people brought in their most useful gadgets. I'll dig out the pics and info and see if I can post it here.

hope this helps.

I got a chopper and grater attachment (one attachment that does both) for my kenwood chef, which has been brilliant. I can slice potatoes and carrots etc - which also eliminates having to peel them. I have a busy family so it has really saved my life - and noone has ever noticed that I haven't peeled anything! It also chops onions nice and small - and is easy to wash.

I have an electric can opener - although it is a bit fiddly to get the tin on properly, so I could do with an idea of a better one.

The two gadgets I couldn't be without are the one touch can opener and one touch jar opener. They are brilliant, just press one button and the can or jar are opened within a few seconds. The jar opener even managed to undo a two year old honey pot that had got so gunked up even my husband couldn't get the lid off using my rubber gripper thing.

Here is the link for them on the argos website but they are widely available (I think amazon does them and Lakeland ltd and some other places)

Sorry should have said that you just place them on top of the can or jar so not fiddly at all

I also have the one touch cheese grater, which also came up on the website above. It's downside is that you need to be quite strong to put it together - but overall I find it easier to grate cheese it than using a standard grater. I got mine in Robert dyas for about £10 just before christmas

One of those tower mixer taps with a lever is so much easier to use than taps you have to screw on and off.

Any tips for those ring pull openers for tins? I usually use a knife to pull up the ring and then get in a complete mess!

I find those difficult as well cathie, and like you use a knife put i have been told you can buy a gadget for that but never seen one.
