Went to the consultant last week, had a steroid injection which hasn't taken all the pain away

I have to wait and see the RA nurse to get my medication, does anyone know how long you have to wait to see her? Weeks or months?

Normally the nurses are much quicker than the docs, so should be weeks rather than months. And depending on your hospital, could even be days... Pain is often caused by the inflammation, so make sure you take anti-inflammatories and painkillers in the meantime to try to keep the it down if the steroids aren't doing enough. Polly

Hello. I saw my nurse within one month to get a follow up and another steroid jab. I had 4 jabs in total. I took regular painkillers to keep the pain under control. Hope that helps and take care.

I have had 3 injections over the past 3 months, And to be honest it didn't take all the pain away, i am now on MTX to and to be honest not sure if it is the steroid injection or the MTX that is working. it's a bit better for me since i had my last one, i have been on MTX now for 5 weeks and i am still getting flares and having to take painkillers, what you have to remember is that everyone is different, some people on this have had a great experience with the steroid injection maybe give it another week especially if it is your first , what was the name of the injection you had, and where was it, i had mine in my buttocks, hope this helps take care XXX

Thanks for the replies, I have had a injection before and that was brilliant, this one doesn't seem to work as well, but the pain has been chronic, started with the pain late Nov all Dec. Think I will phone them and see how long I to wait. Xxx

mine hasn't taken all the pain way too.. it is in three years my first always have had oral steroids. which im taking too now on a wean down??!!

Poor you, its not much fun is it. What's annoying me at the moment is I left a message for the Nurse on Friday and she hasn't even got back to me! All I wanted to know was would it be sooner rather than later with the appointment. Can't get back to work yet, so another sick note will have to go in. Getting frustrated, but there's nothing I can do but wait. Good luck with yours Summer. Xx

Nurse phoned!! She said she couldn't do anything because the doc had to refer me, I said she said she was doing that..silence..then I can't access your details, gave birth date, no you haven't been referred, then oh yes you have!! Can't see you until the 20th Feb, fully booked and them I'm on holiday...is there anyone else I could see..No. Question what painkillers should I take, answer go and see your Doctor. Not impressed!!

PS I saw the Rheumatologist on the 7th Jan. This seems a long wait,as talking to other people they had to wait no longer than 2 weeks.
