Hope this means that 2013 will be much kinder year to you than 2012 was. Best wishes for a successful recovery for your Dad. Polly
He will be in hospital for at least 10 more days!, The major operation of bladder removal and some of the associated plumbing at any age has a v long recovery peroid.
His morphine pump(PCA) the medical/ nursing members will know how this works, had been removed and is just on oral pain killers. The total recovery period is up yo six months , long and slow even after leaving hospital,, dad is 71.
Hi Alison, so glad to hear your dad is going on ok and now back on the ward. Yes it is a mega operation and he will take time to recover but with lots of rest and attention from you all, I am sure he will recover in time. 71 is no age these days - it is still young. (my hubby is 72 - I was a child bride ha ha!!!). Any operation involving general anaesthetic is a long haul as it also takes time for the anaesthetic to work its way out.
Have they made your dad a new bladder? That happened to a friend of mine and he had a new bladder created during the op to remove the diseased one. That was 2 years ago and he has never looked back and is doing well although does still get very tired. All traces of the cancer have gone as well although he will be monitored for 5 years very closely.
So some good news for you at long last. I am sure your dad is relieved it is all over as well and he can concentrate on getting well again. Hope your mum is ok - it has been such a strain for her as well. Love and Hugs LavendarLady (Dottie) xx
Really glad to hear that he is back on the ward and now on the road to recovery. It must be a relief to both you and your Mum. Your Dad needs a lot of support right now but don't forget you - you need R & R to make sure that you stay well.
take care of yourself
Wendy xx
