Nervous operation : Hi not posted for long time.. but... - NRAS
Nervous operation
I had my knuckles replaced on my right hand approx 11 years ago and glad I did. That hand was pretty useless after years of inflammation and a failed tendon op. It was performed by a hand surgeon from the plastics department. It's so important to have physio after, plus keeping it in a sling when not exercising. I could make a fist after 3 months, it's starting to drift a little more nowadays but I have been able to use it. All the very best. Take care. X
Thank you..
Hi
Firstly, the very best of luck with your op.
Can I ask why you’re having them replaced? Both my hands, knuckles and fingers, have been badly affected and are tricky and I wondered the level of damage before replacement was an option?

Hi...ive had every treatment & this is 4th operation to help pain..Im currently on morphine patches & oral morphine.& at 52 its not good quality of life..xxx
That sounds so difficult for you and you’re right, definitely impacts quality of life. I am same age. I’ve only had RA and AS For last four years. Very aggressive and hard to get under control. I’ve had both hips and both knees replaced ( within 3 months of each other) as well as surgery twice on feet- it’s a living nightmare at times, isn’t it?
I asked because my consultant mentioned what ‘we’ could do re the damage in my hands- it is significant.
I really wish you the very best with the op and going forward.
Marie
Bless you...Ive had it for 11yrs but because of my age no one listened until too late..i know the rest of my body has it but bearable at min...hands are everything & not be able to use is a nightmare..Im fortunate to have a great circle of friends that if we out wll cut my food discretley for me etc...my hands are so badly deformed i get embarrased..also people think im clumsy..but all the time I can walk & talk i have everything to be greatful for..my heart goes out to your rapid progress of it.xxx
I totally get that! When my hands are
Swollen, my girls have needed to cut stuff and if I’m out for a meal, I don’t have steak etc - things I cannot cut without trouble even though it’s my favourite! It’s not easy, not at all!
Genuinely hope this op is a success for you x
I will let you know..thank you.x
