It was always going to be difficult for me.

I had a ankle operation nearly 3 weeks ago and I knew that to be totally dependent, ankle non weight bearing for a couple of. Months was going to be really hard for me as I am fiercely independent.

It has been awful, tiring on crutches, feeling so emotionally down, unable to relax. The actual ankle is virtually pain free and I hope th bones are fusing well. I just can't come to terms with thet fact at ht 3 years since diagnosis, this amount of damage was done to my ankle tendons.

I am n for a moan, but can anyone tell me is it normal to feel down after an operation, I know it's only a matter of time but I can't stop fretting and worrying, what if this, what if that?

Anyway, as I am not making any real sense I'll leave it at that. Typos iPad fault.

hi Gina

no it's normal to feel down after an op, well it must be 'cos I am, nothing seems to go right, as i'm unable to walk free style without plaiting my legs, I can understand the way you feel about the crutches; I use 2 walking sticks or a stroller that has 4 wheels, a basket and tray, if the tray is off it then has a seat. I can then get the things I need for dinner etc and bring them in to the kitchen.

i had the blood tranfusion yesterday and hope that I will perk up.

So please don't worry about not being a happy bunny, we can be grumpy old woman if we want.

Take care hunny bun get plenty of rest and try not to worry about anything.

Hi Gina. Don't worry your are not going mad, from seeing my father after his many operations it does seem normal to feel down after an operation. I don't know the reason why, maybe someone else may be able to help you on that front, but I remember my mum telling me that after to speaking to my dads consultant about how he was he said it was normal to feel like this for a short period after. Would suggest if you don't feel a bit more yourself soon that you have a chat with your GP. It's a lot to accept that this damage happened in such a shor period so give your self some time to feel sorry for yourself. Take care of yourself. mel :)

Hi Gina

Did you have a GA? or Epidural? If it was a GA then it is perfectly normal to be feeling so blue, the GA actually has drugs in it that lower the amount of ???? oh how annoying can't remember the name grrr!!! and that means you feel low/depressed/agitated etc.. if you have Epidural then it also is normal as your little body has just had a huge shock to it's system,

In fact (giggleing to myself) i could have just simply put 'yes it is normal' ;-)

Doh

I have felt low emotionally after every op...2 hip replacement...2knee replacements...left wrist fused...both feet fused... am now awaiting both ankles to be fused (1st is on Jan 30th), and it doen't get easier the more you have, i bricking it just as much as i was on the first ;-0

Gina my darling, there is nothing wrong with you its the anesectic thats making you feel rough and down. Down worry about it,its only natural after what you have just been through.I had to have crutches last year after having my ligaments stitched back and i was plastered all down my right leg and i can tell you it soooo frustrating. Put a blog on each day and we will all answer you if only to cheer you up. Don't bottle it all up.

Take care my love. sylvia.xx

HI Gina

Appears to be very normal to feel so low and as well as that you can't get away from it, or distract yourself with something else. It must be very hard being dependant on others. I hope the ankle is healing and you will be back on your feet very soon.

Hi Thanks for all your answers and support. I went for a sleep after writing that blog and do feel a bit better now. It is probably a combination of tiredness as well.

I am lucky I have my mum & my sister here with me. My sister is going back to U.K. next Thurs, it has been great having her here with me and she has kept me positive. In addition we just changed the dressing on my ankle and it looks as if it is healing up well. Arthroscopically done on right and sliced open on left! He also cut a small incision in my heel no stitches tho, I think he said he was just looking at someting, maybe a tendon, but as I was high as a kite on morphine , I don't know what was real or what was imagined now. :)

Anyway talk soon.
