An interesting read, thank you for sharing

Thankyou lovely reading something so positive,I cannot believe RA only affects one per cent of the worlds population, how unlucky are we :((((( but research is improving all the time xxx
Am a little surprised at how low key this has been, but knew just who would appreciate hearing about it. You're welcome, Linda x
That sounds promising and hope it will be a help for my children in the future as I always dread them having the family history. thanks for this information, I will try to read the full piece. Axx
I find this stuff interesting, but its way off "cures" just yet - and it doesn't explain everyone with the disease either (what about the men?). Genetic research is flavour of the month in terms of medical research right now, but as research into other diseases clearly shows, it isn't JUST about genes - you will always have folk with the genes but who never get the disease, and people with the disease that don't have the common genes that go with it.
So, while I find it interesting, I'm sceptical about its practical value to any of us right now.
I'd rather someone did some research on how many folk in the UK are getting dismissed by doctors and not diagnosed, or who have been diagnosed but aren't receiving optimum follow up or treatment, or........any one of a number of things that would make much more practical difference to folks lives right now.
Also, if they do find out what genes are involved - then what? genetic engineering to get rid of those genes?????????? Not for me, thanks.
Given that (auto-immune)Arthritis is very rarely in the news and there was a positive slant to the story I felt it would be of interest to us. Scepticism is healthy - many things are heralded as 'cures' with little or no scientific basis, this at least did seem to use a fairly large 'sample' as it were. Me personally I wish no-one a lack of diagnosis or misdiagnosis or losing out in the post code lottery of treatments and the like but selfishly I would kinda like a cure. I approach most 'announcements' with a cautious optimism and feel that it can't hurt to have hope. Linda
the article seems to imply that diet and lifestyle are partly to blame.
i can't understand that when its an auto immune disease.
i'm sceptical of research too. they spend millions on research but at the end of the day we're lucky to get the drugs they've spent a fortune developing.
Whilst ofc diet and lifestyle dont 'give' you an autoimmune disease surely its common sense that it can be exacerbated by such. I too do not herald reports such as this as one step away from a cure but take heart from the fact that money is being spent on this and hope to see a benefit in my lifetime, hope springs eternal.
