What else does a girl do when she has blocked sinuses and her ra decides it wants to party.
So here i am between catnaps surfing the web to see whose about. My throat has been really bad at the moment and at 2,00am i was sucking callipos as it seem to be the only thing that gives me any relieve in my throat and mouth. Go on all of you laugh,(i know i would) at this crazy woman sitting with her laptop on and sucking a lollipop. I have managed to get some sleep thank goodness. I am in my recliner sitting with head up rather than laying down as it makes it easier for me to breathe. I am drinking a lot of flavoured water as well as the callipos. I really love them, now don't go asking is she pregnant(i don't have an oven)
Well lovely people i will keep this short and sweet as it is loo break time for me.
Hope you all have a lovely day......

Hi Sylvi, have you tried holding a hot water bottle over your forehead? I've found this helps even when the major pain is the sinuses below my eyes. It helps the pain plus seems to break down the mucus and starts shifting it. Plus the nasal wash as I mentioned in another of your posts. Also, leaning my head forward (this sounds revolting) until my nose runs and then just sit in that position (tissue in hand) until it stops running of it's own accord. Also, eating something which catches at the back of my nose/throat can help, sometimes it's mustard, raw onion or hot horseradish sauce.
If I think of anything else I will come back to you on it. (I have suffered with my sinuses for years - even before the RA raised it's head).
I find callipos ease the pain in my mouth and throat. If thats an excuse for sucking lollipops i don't know what is. I am also using a facial sauna with lavender oil as well. Whats the name of that nasal rinse you were talking about as i'm off to bedworth shortly and i would like to get some. sylvi. xxx
Judi i have been to the chemist and got some nasal rinse. It was with sea water in a pressurised can. Boy that blows your brains out. As long as it doesn't go on my chest thats all i'm worried about.
I have put straps on my right hand they are that sore. I won't klet this ruddy ra beat me.
Sorry you are not feeling any better. The nasal wash has worked for my OH who suffers with his sinuses, not pleasant but effective. Hope you improve soon. Sending you a hug & love. Alison x
Morning Sylvi, sorry I missed your question yesterday. The answer was NeilMed sinus rinse. I should have given you the name when I told you about it, didn't give that a thought. If the nasal wash doesn't work maybe try the sinus rinse. I had to order it in from my chemist but we live on a small estate so that's as expected whereas isomewhere larger like B - - ts would probably stock it. You make it up yourself in a bottle with warm water and add the sachet of stuff.
With the sinus rinse (as apposed to the spray stuff) you squirt the stuff up your nose with your mouth open leaning over the sink so that it runs through and clears the mucus out through your mouth so it would not go on to your chest. It was expensive the last time I bought it (something like £16) but it has really worked for me. I'm guessing that the sachet of stuff is little more than a very mild solution of salt. Also guessing that a few grains of sea salt and warm water would do the same thing, next time I have a problem I intend giving it a go.
I do hope that the sinus wash you have has started working for you by this morning. It is unpleasant but hopefully it sorts it out for you.
I got some from my chemist yesterday. Boy does it blow the cobwebs away. I wish it could do the same for my ra. My hands are really rough, they are the worst they have ever been. I'll survive i suppose.
I have been down here since 3am an hour later than yesterday.I am coughing and that makes my throat very sore.
Sorry you are still having bad problems with your hands. Some pains are worse than others and I find that pains in my fingers and toes are extra hard to put up with.
It seems as soon as one part of me, painwise, seems to improve then another one starts somewhere else. I don't feel as though I have ever been in remission since I was diagnosed.
With regard to your hands, after I had replacement knuckle joints done I had to sit with my hand elevated from the elbow which helped to reduce the swelling. Just a thought, have you tried sitting with your hands raised with elbows on the arm of the chair? If you have swelling as well as pain in your hands it may help. The main thing was not to sit with my hand in my lap or stand with it by my side.
I also had to sleep with my hand raised, basically propped up on a pile of pillows. (Moved into spare bedroom with bed against the wall to stop pillows escaping).
Oh well, I'm off to feed the dog and get a shower and then get dressed.
Judi x
PS: Yep, the spray does blow the cobwebs away (and stings at first) but if you can put up with the stinging for a while hopefully it will do the trick. With regard the throat, my OH has been prescribed a spray by GP which numbs the throat (as he has COPD) plus I think it is antiseptic. Unfortunately cant tell you what it's called at the moment as it's downstairs, nor if you could use it with the other drugs you are on. Perhaps a telephone call to your local chemist who may be able to suggest something, unless you are going that way and can call in to them. Either way, hope you soon feel better.
Judi the stuff i've got is called sterimar from my chemist. It does the job. Thank you so much for going out of your way to find this info for me. I am good at helping others, but i am not very good when it comes to me. I am having a right morning of it, i had my tablets with actimel which i always do,but for some reason i didn't shake it up before i had it and within an hour it had gone straight through me. On top of my ra/fibro playing up i go and get delly belly. I am hoping it has passed now as i don't feel as bad as i did earlier. What a way to spend your birthday hey on and off the toilet. Ah well it will be something to laugh about later.
i get mucusy with having asthma, and what i do is put a big squirt of original source mint shower gel in a pump spray bottle and spray it around my bedroom - i've found it helps a little bit and stops the air being so dry which seems to make mucus worse for me.
watching you tube videos on my phone is my 'comfort bankie' during the night when i can't sleep for pains, i put a cushion between my wrists and cup my phone in my hands. it doesn't take the pain away but at least it's a distraction.
Thank you. I am asthmatic as well. I think i should be put in a bag and shook up. I have lavender oil i can use. If it gets really bad i come downstairs and sit in my recliner and surf the weg. Then i try and get some sleep. I am exhausted at the moment. It feels like it is on my chest but i don't think it is yet as i am bringing stuff up thank god.
