Assessment meeting for a claim on income protection.

I posted the other day about meeting a nurse for the above and many of you were most helpful and supportive. I wish I could say the same for the nurse who visited me!

I suppose having spent 23 years as a financial advisor I should be aware of how companies view claims, how do you explain to someone how the fatigue feels so that you can concentrate for no longer than 2 hours? And when they blandly recommend 'exercise' as a remedy, how trying to run a business self employed with very limited energy and am told that perhaps I shouldn't think of the difficulties first. I definitely got the impression from this woman that she is of the opinion that my symptoms were very much 'in my mind' and needed to 'shape up!'

I honestly think sometimes (although not for long) that I would be better off being back to my worst when I couldn't even get out of bed or dress myself. At least then there was no question of my symptoms, this no-mans land of being half well is impossible. Impossible to work and impossible to not work.

I was asked about my hobbies which include Amateur dramatics, 'Oh really?' was the response, I tried to explain that I restricted any role to as small as possible with no strenuous activity such as dancing (in the panto). This was also met with disdain, are we supposed to give up all our interest's and hobbies and become vegetables?

Oh well...........

This disease is soo hidden isn't it Ethan, we don't look too bad on the outside, but what goes on the inside is a differant matter altogether. Hope it works out well for you. sylvi.xx

That sounded like a horrible ordeal. We all try to be really positive about our outlook yet when we are trying to get something sorted because of our illness we have to be realistic about our abilities. And there could be nothing so frustrating as someone thinking that you are not trying hard enough or taking affirmative action regarding ra. As a nurse she should have a bit more understanding about the implications of this disease.

I do hope the result comes back positive for you.

Keep you chin up, she is only a small cog as part of a big wheel. These people often show little or no empathy, they are part me a system that need to check so many records in a give period of time, either via the phone or by a personal visit. No excuse for her lack of empathy or professionalism.

Keep positive are you are and hopefully your request will go thru unhindered.

Best wishes

Carole
