First time since diagnosis in July that I have been able to be honest that I am struggling a little at the moment.
Really supportive meeting. I have been given options to either reduce my hours, have a day working from home which can either be temporary and reviewed or permanent. I was overwhelmed with how supportive my employer is being with me. Lots of decisions to make including do I wish to see occupational health too. Offered lots of practical and emotional support. Now time to make some decisions to try and get a bit of work life balance back.

It has really made me appreciate what a good employer I have. They are so good about all my appointments too. Feeling so fortunate for having such a good employer.
It is such a relief as my manager has been ok but I started to feel worried about the future and what it may bring. The person from HR has really put my mind at ease. ๐
Nice to hear about a fair employer, you are lucky.
Lovely to hear. I too was supported well at work and it made all the difference. I went through occupational health and they were amazing. Made me realise what I had been doing, working but days off spent in bed recovering. That had been my normal and didnโt even question it till then๐ I wish you lots of luck and a happy working life. ๐
Even having one day working at home I am sure will help. No struggling getting dressed. Can do my work in my pjโs and comfort of home and have regular rest breaks too which will be great. No three hour commute either. I am so excited that I am being given the opportunity to try this. xx
Yeah. I' m glad you went to them as occy health and hr are often great if you tell them what's going on.
The next step is to get a union rep. Hr etc will make reasonable adjustments but if they dont make things easier they start to want to let you go. Only do this when they let you go as they have to do it under certain circumstances. Hang in there just now, dont resign or retire!!
We donโt have a union at work. I feel very positive from my meeting so donโt think they are looking at letting me go. No plans to leave and far too young to retire at 44. ๐. Just nice to have options to try and keep working for as long as my condition will let me.
As others have said, great employer. When I worked I had someone come and assess my workspace and loaned me an electronic typewriter (yes it was a long time ago). Made me feel i was still relevant in the workspace.
i glad you have . i had a meeting when i returned to work about my future and i had aline manager who has been through something simlilar so he helped me a lot (2 years ago) , aubawquently i have had another meeting with the new manager and i have had another productive meeting . it really does help when you have the support from your work place .
So glad to hear Summerrain14. I too had good employers and also the colleagues I worked with. I was allowed to start work at 9.30 am giving me an extra half an hour in the morning to get ready, which I tagged onto the afternoon. If my colleagues knew that hubby was dropping me off (difficult to drive) there was a cup of tea waiting for me. It made me feel appreciated, they were a grand bunch. Occupational Health were a great help too, once I was on their books they saw me twice yearly for any needs I might have. Take Care.
Aww what lovely colleagues you have. Unfortunately I work with not such a nice colleague so do not wish to discuss what is going on for me. This person almost goes out of there way to make life as difficult as possible. We have a meeting with our managers about trying to improve the situation soon. Fingers crossed. I must admit not a lot of colleagues know about my health but those that do apart from one are very supportive.
Maybe get a booklet from the NRAS on RA on just what it entails. Leave it lying around or give it to them to read. They may just change their mindset. Good luck with your meeting and Take Care.
Life is so much easier with an understanding employer; mine has been brilliant! I now work 3 days a week, officially starting at 9.30, and have the option to work from home if I wish. When Iโm feeling good, I go in early and bank the time; then have the time back when things are a bit tougher, rather than going sick - heโs been so good to me, I just feel bit better if I can do things that way. My colleagues are very understanding too, and thatโs another big plus!
